I read your post in naturalliving and I'm really glad you made it. You're a trooper for fighting that fight all by yourself over there!
I belong to an amazing community that mixes fashion and politics for fat people, called fatshionista. It's been a godsend for me and many others, and I hope you think about coming on over and checking it out.
Thanks again for the awesome post.

Thank YOU for supporting me in that fight! I expected disagreement, it kind of goes with the territory... but let's just say I didn't expect it to be quite so belligerent. :-/

At any rate, I hope you do come over to fatshionista. I think you and your sister would be excellent additions.!

Can I friend you? Hope so, as I already did! We have other similar itnerests, too -- the genderqueer community, apparantly, for example.
I thought everything you said in there was utterly brilliant and, in the end, it wasn't even a body issue, but an issue about privileged folks stomping in and demanding to be coddled. The same thing would NEVER have been tolerated if it were about white privilege or straight privilege, but we're still so fucked up about weight in the Western world, that folks still want to deny thin privilege exists, even -- then again, I've run into white folks who deny they have white privilege, too, and straight people who whine about not having straight parades. :)
Anyway, if you add me back, I can read your journal! *hopeful*

I checked out your profile and we do have a fair amount in common! I'm getting an MA in pastoral counseling, which basically means I'll be a licensed psychologist with a specialization in spirituality and its impact on overall health. I would like to go on to do PhD work and write and teach at the university level at some point. I'm also potentially interested in writing or research on how technology impacts our relationships, and/or do something with children and conflict resolution in the schools (my undergrad degree is in elementary education).
I friended genderqueer when I needed some help on a presentation I was giving on Gender Identity Disorder (yucky language). I kept it on my friends page to keep reading since I want to learn more and think that in my practice I would like to work with people, especially teens, who are facing sexuality and gender identity issues ( ... )
