Steven Spielberg

I've just thought of another film director that I think would be able to direct the Harry Potter films much better than the other directors thta have already been used. I think that David Yates was the best so far, but i think that Steven Spielberg would be better.

I propose Tim Burton or Guillermo Del Toro. Those two DO know how to make spooky films.

As much as I LOVE Tim Burton, and I really do love him, I think his direction is a bit too exaggerated and animated for Harry Potter.

i think whoever did OotP should continue to direct. i hated the previous movies, but i was surprised at how much i enjoyed OotP. it flowed very nicely compared to the choppyness of the previous films, and the battle scene at the end was beautifully done.

Agreed. OotP is the first time I've sat through one of the films and not have one of those annoying moments where I wonder where an important scene/character disappeared off to (ie, Sirius in GoF) or rolled my eyes at stupid, extraneous scenes (the Beauxbatons and Durmstrang students' "dramatic" entrances, McGonagall teaching the students how to dance) that were added in to appeal to moviegoers. I'm not just picking on GoF, btw, it's just that I rewatched that movie last week and it's freshest in my mind.

But yeah, the director of OotP seemed to know exactly what to remove and add without pissing off loyal fans. The only part of the movie that felt forced to me was Harry and Sirius's relationship...Almost like they realized "oh, crap! people who don't read the books aren't going to remember who Sirius is, or know why Harry's so upset when he dies! We'd better write a heart-to-heart early on in the movie! Oh, and let's have them hug, just for good measure!"

OotP has been the best film to date in my opinion too. Yates is a wonderful director and I'm very glad he's continuing with HBP.
Having said that though, I believe one of the reasons OotP was such a good adaption is because Michael Goldenberg wrote the screenplay. If one person is going to have a lot of power in deciding what to keep, ditch or add to the script then it's got to be the screenplay writer. Steve Kloves did all the other movies, and will be returning for HBP, and I'm inclined to lay some of the blame with him for sections in the other four movies and not just their directors.

I want to re-watch PoA. Upon my first viewing I felt it had ruined my favourite book in the series, for reasons I honestly can't completely remember, so I didn't give it a second viewing/chance.

Steven Spielberg was initially the FIRST director to propose, but he insist combining book 1 + 2 into one film, and have Haley Joel Osment to play Harry. How is that 'much better'? Thank god JK Rowling insisted her way and that didn't work out.

Spielberg is a cock. I heard he suggested Lord of Rings should be filmed as 2 films, with the second called the War of the Ring. With Sam's character changed to be a female. Thank fuck they didnt.
God knows how much he would butcher Harry Potter.

I knew I hated that guy. Now I have another reason.

On Jo's site, she says she didn't have the power to veto a director, and even if she did, she wouldn't have vetoed him.

Spielberg? Oh gods no. Yates was the best so far. Under Spielberg's direction the films would become over-sentimental, and the plot would be cast aside in favour of the special-effects.
Oh yeah, and there would have to be a little blonde girl with huge blue eyes, or a helpless puppy, that was in MORTAL PERIL OMG... but got saved by Harry at the last minute.

All special effects - no story! No thanks, but yeah, that's what I thought at first, too. But no - just no!
