The award is well deserved! 'Red' is a favorite of mine. Although it is brief, as a reader I got a sense of complexity from your presentation of S/U and their relationship.

Thanks Zizi! I meant to reply re my "Laredo" ref! I was tickled you picked up on it. I was brought up on a diet of Judy Collins and Jim Reeves, and bearing in mind that ST is "a western in space" I just couldn't resist. Kickboxing librarians rule!

Somehow the librarian-inclined mind automatically files away details like song lyrics. Oddly, one of the piano-for-beginners books I used as a child had a simplified version of "The Streets of Laredo" in it. Not exactly a song for kids, but the romantic ideal of the rural West influences big and small elements of popular culture. Ironically, the first rodeo I ever attended was in Canada.
