If I haven't thanked you for doing this, Thank you.
The part about her work with NASA blows me away. Has she ever received credit for it?
The Roddenberry stuff. Om my goodness. I wonder if his "devotion" to her was a help or a hindrance?

You're welcome :o) About NASA, well she was paid for the recruitment drive, but I don't know if anyone gave her a medal or anything. Haha, we should start a campaign for Obama to give her some kind of medal! About Roddenberry, Nichelle and him dated circa 1964/65, but really I want to read about Majel's thoughts her relationship with him and the square. And it was a square for a while because dude was messing around with three women. He didn't divorce his wife until 1969, so I wonder if Majel was with him as the other woman during all those years.

If you ever get a chance to read "Inside Star Trek : the real story / Herbert F. Solow and Robert H. Justman" you'll hear all about Gene's indiscretions (to put it mildy) while he was married. He definitely was a free spirit when it came to observing his marriage vows.

The whole Shatner/interracial kiss thing is interesting cause wasn't it not even the first interracial kiss on STAR TREK? Shatner had already kissed France Nuyen (whom I only know as the really pretty girl from South Pacific) who is Vietnamese.

Well, that's where the term interracial gets tricky because some people consider Asians to be white...

Yeah, racial classifications are confusing as hell but I always thought in popular terms, non-white simply meant non-Caucasian.

Or that Asians are that 'model minority'. something that started coming to the fore during the Sp/Am War. omg, i've got some old newspaper cartoons that are just wtf @_@ on that. smh.

ha! that's the same fanmail address i found too. though i noticed on her website she lists The Gersh Co. as her agent--which is the same agency that takes Leonard Nimoy's fanmail. I am DEFINITELY WRITING A FAN LETTER TO HER!!! I will definitely post my results ( ... )

Great pics. I dig the bicycle pic and Leonard looks good in everything it seems.

I wonder if we can extend the book club to other Star Trek books after everyone has read Nichelle's book.

I'd be interested in that. what the hell yk? I'd like to read Nimoy's books next. I'm dying to know what his relationship was like with Gene and what all the angst was between them.

Yeah, I want to read Nimoy's autobiographies. Shatner's not so much...

She's cool about everything, but I always liked the Star Trek canon that women who serve in uniform are 'sirs'. Because ma'am descends from the French for lady of the house.

That's interesting. I thought addressing women as sir implied that for a woman to be equal to a man she must assimilate to his standards. To me true equality would entail recognizing and acknowledging differences and everyone getting over them. Then I started thinking about what the female equivalent to sir would be and came up with ma'am, madame, dame, lady. Perhaps we should create a new title ;ob

We should probably create a new one. It brings to mind what exactly you're supposed to call, say, an Andorian or an asexual member of Starfleet, though.

that'd be interesting. maybe a combination of sir and ma'am? or something?

like how her and him were combined to make 'hir' or zir as gender neutral pronoun?
