I do find Quinto's comment about Spock very interesting even though I have no idea what he's talking about haha
So glad that Uhura kicks more ass

One thing I like from the article is that you can tell that Uhura is definitely elevated. Like, she's not only part of the core 7, but she's at the top as well. As much as I'm hoping we get more on Bones/Urban as well, I'm really glad this article kind of put Saldana/Uhura in a different league than Chekov or Sulu. I totally see it as Spock and Kirk being the main and Uhura and Bones are right behind them followed by the rest of the crew.

I'm actually really glad that we get to see their relationship tested only because I believe JJ and the writes will pull them through. Also, since the actors had more say, I'm sure Quinto and Saldana wanted some steaminess between their characters, especially since they were ALL about the relationship.

it definitely looks like they're focused on a Kirk-Spock-Uhura dynamic which makes sense because she's the only female character. I think that the movie will still have a Kirk-Spock-Bones dynamic as well but it seems that now instead of a trio we have four important characters and different combinations of that dynamic
Spock and Uhura are the couple, Kirk and Bones have their ongoing friendship, Kirk and Spock are trying to be friends, Kirk and Uhura may become friends (Saldana said something about them teaching Spock similar lessons ), Spock and Bones have their bantering. In the middle there are Bones and Uhura who seem the saner or more balanced ones who may roll eyes at Kirk's impulsiveness and Spock's eternal logic.

I too hope that Quinto and Saldana being happy about the S/U relationship is a good sign since they loved it in the first movie and had talked about how they expected and wanted more of them in the sequel.

The way their relationships with each-other will play out sound how you just described it. I'm so glad that It's not just the three main guys and now Uhura is included. I love that she and Spock are the "married" ones among the crew. I just really want them to get married and have cuteness forever.

Yeah, I remember in a video of Quinto being asked what he hoped for in the next movie and he jumped right on Spock and Uhura's relationship (I think it was some q&a or convention during the 2009 movie). Also, I love when Saldana cheekily says she's hoping for them to really "mate". I love her! I'm glad we seem some of their intimacy in the comics, even though they are going through so much angst right now :

It'll be interesting to see if JJ & Co go toward an "Amok Time" kind of plot for the third movie, marrying S/U for real.

I only hope STiD ends with S/U together. If they are apart, will we be in suspense for another four feckin' years?? Yikes. That would be awful.

I will literally quit if they are broken up and we are held in suspense. Mostly because I don't want to hear the gloating from the haters.

If the go "Amok Time" and marry them for real I don't know if I'll be able to handle it. In a good way of course. Maybe that could be playing in how he's being so irrational?? Obviously this is all speculation. Plus, he might be too young for it to happen yet.

Also, this really has nothing to do with anything, but in one of the Trek magazines they have stats for Nyota and they put her year of birth (I think 2238 or 2239). I did the math and she's about 9 years younger than Spock. I wonder if they won't marry them because she's still so young. If we go by the date, she's 19/20 and he's 28 in the movie. I don't know why I'm pointing this out...I always thought they had a 4-5 year difference in age.

I wonder if that date is official or if they are just using the date from TOS which is "sometime in the 2230s." The ages of some of the other characters have changed in AOS so it may just be some reporter making assumptions (I hope).

I think the same, because if we go by those dates then Chekov would be way too young and we know that he's 17

Is it just me, or does the lighting make the actors look older and harsher?

lol yeah well they are all mid thirties playing people who are mid twenties. the shots are not desperately flattering, excepting Zoe who is is just SIGH so purty.

I think the rather unflattering angle makes Quinto look a little heavier, and the harsh lighting does kind of scare up every line and bump in the complexion. [It is possible ZQ has gained some weight - I think I saw something about him quitting smoking, Thanks Be. But he's also approaching his mid-late 30s, whereupon all those lovely slender young men start getting thicker. Alas!]

Chris Pine, bless him - he'll probably look young for a long time, except for smile crinkles.

Zoe - still looks first class.

I can only agree with all the things you have said. Spock is gorgeousness on legs...Uhura is pure class. I want it to be May NOW. Nuff said.
