It's Christmas Eve, and they are staying in a motel again, not one of the cheaper ones, John was trying to make something of the holiday for the boys. He looks around the motel room, at the small tree in the corner, the even smaller pile of presents underneath it. The lack of any other decoration in the room noticeable by its absence. And then this monster marches in and John is completely lost in terms of raising his boys because he probably knows every child deserves ‘normal’ and should be happy by default, but it’s ‘normal’ that gets people killed, so what does he do? This is wonderful, and I love how you understood exactly what I was trying to get across, especailly the last bit, and I put the bit in about carrots 'cause I HATE them lol!
