Oh, yes, that does give me things to think about. I've got the invisibility part covered, though. Since it's kind of AU.

And I think the reason they decide they want to catch one is out of pure boredom. Though it might be hella funny if they decided to keep it as a pet. (Not that they would)

I think it would be quite possible. You might need a specific binding ritual or device, but I could see it working. Thrice blessed and consecrated iron choke collar, perhaps? With a devil's trap tag? They could initially contain it with a devil's trap that's painted on the ground, not the dust that they used before. Plus there's that plant that Bela was using to ward them off; if they made a wreath of that and nailed it to the ground, it would be considerably harder to blow away.

Also, perhaps there could be a spell used to pierce the veil? That way they could see what they were doing.

I'm not sure why they'd want to catch one, mind. For a different spell or ritual? To try and find a way to more permanently repel them? I guess there are ways, but it seems more trouble than it's worth!

I love the idea of an iron collar, but wouldn't it like make the Hellhound disappear? Or am I reaching?

Anywho, all of those ideas are awesome and would work in my story.

And as to why they would want to catch a Hellhound, I think it's just out of pure boredom. Something new.

Well, it didn't with the ghost in Yellow Fever so you could use that as evidence provided you didn't mind ignoring all the OTHER parts of canon that YF ignored.

Hm... It didn't cause the demons in 4x15 to vanish either, come to think of it. They were burnt by the iron chains and definitely didn't seem happy, but they weren't dispersed.

I think it might be possible because obviously there are things that affect where it can go. It probably takes supermojo though, something like that angel repellant spell (which apparently can only be done in angel blood). If a demon as powerful as Alistair or Lilith could be caught then there must be a way to trap a hellhound, although I'm not sure the boys could do it without learning some new superpowered heavenly mojo. If hellhounds are the servants of hell...it would probably take angelic magic to stop them.
