A terrific Sam/Castiel story:

Like a Rolling Thunder Chasing the Wind and its sequel Mercy Comes With the Morning by elise_509
The angels are battling Lilith, and Uriel and Castiel are watching the Winchesters. Castiel comes to believe there is hope for Sam. In the sequel, Sam and Dean are drifting apart, as Dean is caught more and more in his memories of hell. He's drinking, while Sam hunts alone. Castiel makes the choice to fall from heaven, so he can be with Sam. Sam is still being sought by Lilith, who wants the power Azazel left in his blood. The story is just as much about Dean and Sam rebuilding their brotherly bond as it is about Sam and Castiel.

I don't sort on word count, but my delicious has tons of just what you're asking for. powers!sam, guilty!dean, angry!dean, hurt!sam, possessed!sam, and I think one or two nonexplicit sam/cas. A couple good Wincestiel, but NO Destiel. Not even one.

It's always a good day when I can recommend my favorite S5 hurt!Sam guilty!Dean long fic!! This is very angsty and I probably shouldn't be smirking with glee at the hope that you will be reading it for the first time.

For post-possession angst, I like UnabashedBird's Faith, Trust and A Dog or Four. Summary: Sam adopts a dog because, like Jody keeps telling him, he's allowed to want and have nice things. Somehow, thanks in part to the large dog forcefully impressing on Dean the necessity of an attitude adjustment, this leads to a bunker occupied by two humans, four dogs, an ex-angel, and an ex-demon. And when Charlie, Dorothy, and a surprise guest return from Oz just in time for Christmas, the fun really begins. Kinda fix-it fic, so maybe not so angsty.

I had seen the dog one before, but it looked too fluffy for me. On your rec I gave it a shot and it was a good, angsty, fluffy fix-it. I nearly cried in chapter 4 at Sam's panic attack. Exactly the post-possession angst I wanted. Thanks for that!

As for Between the Lines, I think I have read it before, but it's been long enough that it felt like a completely new story. I recognized the double question Sam asked over and over, but I couldn't remember what Dean answered or anything else. It's amazing how it was written before season 4, yet she captured exactly the anger Dean felt and the hopelessness Sam felt during season 5. And beyond really. She predicted where the show would go without Dean taking a tour through Sam's psyche. Thanks so much for showing this one to me again!

I am always happy to recommend Jassy's Regrets Trilogy, which is hella long and really, really good. Sam gets a witch to send him back in time to save his brother from the Crossroads demon, and arrives with all of his powers and memories intact. Everything changes from that point on, except the Winchesters' inability to communicate with each other worth a damn.

AU (Significant timeline change), BAMF!Sam, Sam/Dean (bottom!Sam), Sam/Ash (bear with me, it works in context), Dean/Cassie (offscreen), Sam/lots of other people (M and F, but not very descriptive, and Sam not bottom, there's a reason), hurt!Sam, psychic!Sam and powers!Sam, just-tryina-save-the-world-even-if-it-costs-me-everything!Sam, tons of angst, and more BAMF!Sam.

Loved that story! Usually time travel goes from like season 5 to season 2 or something similar, but this was an interesting change going way back preseries. The psychic powers were cool, Sam was badass, and Ash was a great character. Thanks for the rec! Now I'm reading the rest of her stuff in that archive. :)
