Set during Season 4 of Supernatural, Castiel sent Sam and Dean to investigate the location of a seal about to be broken. Little do they know what horrors await them. Horror/Gen, with multiple endings! Rated: M - English - Horror/Suspense - Chapters: 30 - Words: 50,264
otp_destiel's Hell Rises with Him. Dark, AU, demon!Dean. Summary: When Castiel gripped Dean Winchester tight and raised him from perdition he had no idea that the once Righteous Man was no longer human, nor the effects that raising him thus would have.
Though I've never written a Silent Hill-Supernatural crossover, Counteroffer was very much inspired by the game series - especially some of the visuals. It's pretty damn dark though, even for me - but if that's what you're looking for, it should be right up your alley.
Regarding suicide I've written three where one brother kills themselves, but there's no haunting afterwards: (again they're both pretty depressing, especially the first) The Devil's Own Oh Death, Come close Mine Eyes and Not With a Bang (this one is post-Apocalypse: Lucifer won, but he keeps Dean alive)
However, the fic you're talking about does sound very familiar. I tried finding it and came up with nothing. I'll keep looking though, because it was a pretty good read.
I read a great haunting one a while ago, but for the life of me can't find it. Maybe someone else will. It has Sam and Jess living together and Dean comes for a visit and really it is Dean's ghost visiting Sam annually on the day of the pilot as Dean died looking for John because Sam said no. And Sam puts himself through this every year as pennance for saying no and because it means he gets to see Dean once a year. Of course I've totally spoiled it now but it wasn't until close to the end/reveal before I figured it out it was so well done. I think I might have found it off Crack!Impala and it was probably a pretty old rec.
I'll post on here and ask if anyone knows of it and just hide the spoiler behind a cut. Hopefully someone finds this fic for us because I used to have it as a bookmark on Firefox but I lost it a long while ago. :/

I have a few self-recs that might fit the bill.
