Have you read The Syntax of Things by dotfic? It's Dean/Castiel (quite mild) and fits your second request pretty well. Really nice story, with great character development. The link is to DW, where you can read the whole fic on one post, but it's also up on her LJ.

Dust and echoes by tracy_loo_who is one of my favourite post-finale fic.

That whole John Connor thing by waldorph with Dean as the savior of mankind is great.
