Fic recs: novella length Dean/Sam stories

Sometimes, you just want something to get your teeth into. Something long and plotty and wonderful. Here are some suggestions.

Waiting Games by nutkin [Dean/Sam, NC-17, 13,726 words]
I read this story this morning, and I dragged it out as long as possible because I was desperate for it not to finish. It uses a plot device that could be an awful cliché in the wrong hands - Sam has visions of him and Dean having sex - but it's handled beautifully here. It's a glorious first time story that digs deep into who Sam and Dean are, with moments of startlingly wonderful realisations. I'm seriously in love with this story.

Summer Blackout by nutkin [pre-series (underage), Dean/Sam, NC-17, 11,740 words]
This has such a vivid feel to it, Dean and Sam growing up, sex a part of all that.

The Miner's Lamp, Ruddy With the Light & I See You Better In the Dark by hansbekhart [Sam/Dean, PG-13 - NC-17, 10,937 words total]
A novella length trilogy, in which Sam falls in love first, and Dean deals. Raw and real and powerful - writing that gets to the heart of them. I didn't feel quite so engaged in the middle section, from Dean's point of view, but it's still one of the very best first time Wincest stories out there.

money's worth by whereupon [Dean/Sam, PG-13, 13,000 words]
A case story and far more, wonderfully atmospheric, with lyrical writing that's a sheer pleasure to read. Although the author lists it as Sam/Dean, don't be put off by that if you don't read wincest - it's one of those borderline stories that can be read as gen or slash.

Somewhere A Clock is Ticking by jonny-vrm [AU, Dean/Sam, Max, NC-17, 30,700 words]
An AU in which Max survives and joins Dean and Sam on the road. Great plot and character development, gorgeous writing, unputdownable.

Wuxing (Five Goings) by poisontaster [Dean/Sam, NC-17, 12,670 words, warnings for violence and mention of rape]
Layers upon layers here, the sort of story you can read and reread.

Lessons Learned by lyra_wing [future-fic, Michael/Lucas, implied Dean/Sam, PG-13, 12,159 words]
An outsider point of view story (Michael's), which I'm not usually wildly keen on, but which works wonderfully here. lyra_wing has taken two minor characters and created a wholly plausible future for them, and gives us a glimpse of a future Dean and Sam at the same time.

Fundamental Image by rei_c [Sam/Dean, Sam/Jess, NC-17, 15,600 words]
An exploration of Sam's powers, with a captivating use of mythology, and prose that slip-slides under your skin.

Down To The End 'verse by esorlehcar [AU, Dean/Sam, adult, 34,610 words]
So, normally, I avoid stories that are part of a 'verse' - I just don't have the attention span to keep all the sections in mind, and I don't like getting stories in parts because I'm impatient like that. But, I make a very willing exception for this series - it's loving and painful Dean/Sam, snarky and schmoopy and it makes me blissfully happy.

More novella length story recs to come, of the het, gen and other slash pairing categories.
