Some Sam/Dean and some J2, the fics I bring will make you blue...

This month, I was looking for tales that would bring tears to your eyes, and most of these should do the trick nicely. One or two of them are less angsty, but they are all really well done.

1: Welcome Home, Dean Winchester, by just_ruth

Sam got himself in a bind and hadn't seen Dean for two years. A little girl who's lost her own family decided that he was sad and needed a Christmas present to cheer him up.

2: I Got Some Beer, and the Highway's Free, by musesfool

An oldie - Written back in 2008, before the start of Season 4. Sam rescued Dean from Hell, and nursed him back to health from his traumatized state. Dean's slow recovery seen through Sam's loving eyes is incredibly touching, even if that isn't what happened in canon.

3: Moths on the Mirror, by fleshflutter

Dean Winchester has been committed to an insane asylum, because he's a bad, bad man. Most of the time he sees his mom burning up on the ceiling, although he never talks about it. Things may change now though, because a new specialist is on the scene to work with him. He's tall, blond and uncertain, and Dean finds him attractive. Maybe he will be able to save Dean from the eyeless freaks in the mirror. Chilling, satisfying and very creepy.

4: Ink, by crazywritinfool

Awesome Season 3 AU. Sam is trying to save Dean from going to hell as per his contract, despite Dean's wishes to the contrary. To do this, he enlists Wolfram & Hart's best legal minds, and if Lilah and Lindsey can't find a way, who can? It doesn't go quite the way Sam plans it, however, and Lindsey gets rather more than he expected. The characterization in this story is so good, I was blown away. Also, it's as hot as... well, hell.

5: A Stranger to Sorrow, by corbyinoz

This isn't all posted yet, but will be by tomorrow. It's a long, harrowing J2 story that has a very unexpected payoff in the end and which as a bonus has the most amazing art by apiceofcake that you should go and check out. Jensen is a golden boy with everything going for him, until one fateful day when everything starts to go wrong. I highly recommend it if you enjoy crying a lot.

6: New Day, New Dawn, by cheebles

beautifully written post-apocalypse J2. There's a disease out there that's killing all the women. Jared's alone now with his son, and feeling lost. I have no words. Just go and read.

7: Be Cool. Be Hard. Be Weird, by dugindeep

This begins in High School. New boy Jensen appears halfway through the school year. He's quiet and Jared's friends call him the mute. Jared, however, sets out to befriend the new kid, and is shocked when Jensen is suddenly gone again. 15 years down the line, the high school is to be demolished and a new one built. There's a reunion, and Jensen - who is now a movie star - attends. It's a story that resonated with me in a very strong way. It's poignant, and beautifully characterized. Even though it's an AU, I felt Jared and Jensen thoughout the piece.

8: After the Sky Falls, by riyku

Post apocalypse fic that sees Jensen trudging through desert until he collapses and is found by a strange man who seems to need the company. Tender, beautifully written love story that is written almost as though it's poetry.

9: What You've Got is Gold, by kelleigh

Jared is a lifeguard at the pool where potential Olympic swimmer Jensen is training. When Jared sees Jensen in difficulties in the pool, it sets in motion a train of events that may or may not lead to gold. The beauty of this story is the sweet relationship the two men have. I loved watching their relationship develop. Very sexy indeed.

10: Safe and Sound, by acollapsngdream

This was my Christmas gift from the spn_j2_xmas secret santa, and, boy, was it worth waiting for! It's an au and features Jensen as an expert safecracker who has left the dark side and now is using his powers for good. Unfortunately there's someone out there who wants to force him back into his old ways. Can he find a way out, or is he doomed to go down?

11: Christmas Where You Can Find It, by dugindeep

Dugindeep has painted an amazing, dystopian world, where corporate interests have decimated the land and left many communities without resources. Jensen is a cartographer who finds himself stranded in an arid wilderness when his vehicle packs up on him, and isn't expecting the rescue by captain Jared and his trusty droid, Misha.
