Back at home, Jensen is in his high chair, pitching a fit. He'd been cranky all evening, upset by the session with the doctor, Jared knew, and needing reassurance. He had fought his bath time and hurled his stuffed piggie at Jared, and now he's spitting out the stewed prunes Jeff is trying to coax into his mouth.

Jared looks up from the bottle he's warming and says, "I think it's past somebody's bedtime."

"Come on, buddy. Swallow." Jeff swipes the rubber-coated spoon through the prunes smeared over Jensen's chin. Jensen, eyes mischievous, shakes his head from side to side in a big exaggerated arc. Jeff pauses, irritated. "If you make me tell you again," he says, leaning back in his chair, "you're not going to like it."

Jensen bangs his fists on the tray of his high chair and yells, "No!"

Of the words in Jensen's limited vocabulary, there is only one that would matter, and "no" isn't it.

Jeff stands up, grim and absolutely serious. He says, "Alright, son, that is it. This little tantrum ends now," and Jensen goes instantly quiet.
