Here is the episode guide to the series, also will be updated as the episodes air. Will contain links to episodes as well. Spoilers abound!

Episode 1:   A Course For Winds of Fortune

Original Airdate: 0210.01.18.

Summary:

The Yellow Eyed Demon had a plan in Cold Oak. A plan to see who was strongest, who would survive. A plan that left Sam Winchester dead in his brother’s arms. When all his options are taken away, Dean is left to fight without his brother. Alone and bereft, Dean is faced with disturbing revelations about the Yellow Eyed Demon’s plan. But just how big is it? What Dean learns will change everything.

Excerpt:

The tinder caught and the fire sprang to life, illuminating the growing dimness.  Dean had to step back, away from the smoke.  His eyes burned with it, and the stench in his nostrils was almost enough to make his stomach turn.

But he didn’t move.  Couldn’t move.  He watched as the fire consumed.  It took all the kindling quickly, burning through it and starting in on the cloth.  Then it took his brother’s body whole, spreading across it with a striking and irreversible speed.

It started with fire when Sam was six months old and now Dean would commit his brother’s soul to the flames once and for always.

Episode 2: Revelations 6:8

Original Airdate: 0210.01.25.

Summary:

The brothers find themselves back on the road, pursuing what appears to be an easy hunt, desperate to resume a life that passes as normal for them. Only Sam hasn’t competely recovered from his time spent away from Dean, dead, and Dean’s world has been rocked with the knowledge that he put both his father and brother to rest only to have them pop back up again. All signs are pointing to something that doesn’t meet the eye, not even in their world.

Excerpt:

Sam was back.

He didn’t have black eyes like… like him.

A shudder worked its way through his exhausted body and he winced, almost pulled the blanket closer around him against the sudden chill that was spreading throughout his limbs. Only that it wouldn’t help against the emotional coldness.

It couldn’t be, whatever they had seen, whatever trick Yellow Eyes had played on them, it wasn’t their father, it wasn’t John, he would never… right? It was just some demon riding his body… which they had burned so that this could never happen, he couldn’t be used like some cheap suit. They had burned him, just like he had burned S-

Don’t go there.

Episode 3: Noise and Confusion

Original airdate: 2010.02.01

Summary:

While recouping at Bobby’s Dean tries to seek out a way to pull Sam from his slump. After Dean is attacked in his nightmares, he and Sam must use an unusual new ability to hunt a creature which only appears in dreams.

Excerpt:

The pain from his own beating heart was like jackhammers forcing through his chest from the inside. This was wrong. All wrong. He tried desperately to call back to Sam, answer him and find his way out. If he could only follow his brother’s voice, he’d get out. Legs jerking, feet slipping along the floor, Dean scrabbled at his face with both hands trying to pry loose the thing covering his nose and mouth. He was dying. Pain lanced down his spine. His chest constricted and his lungs felt as if they’d been doused in gasoline and ignited. He couldn’t breathe. He couldn’t breathe at all.

Episode 4: Playing With Fire

Original airdate: 2010.02.08.

Summary:

Children in Westlake are disappearing. Dean and Sam suspect a rawhead, and Dean especially is looking forward to a simple monster hunt. All he wanted was to hunt monsters and maybe save some little kids. A simple, clean, kill-the-evil hunt. But between Sam’s increasing powers and a town secret, simple may be too much to ask for.

Excerpt:

There was something wrong with him, and there was something wrong with Sam; but, damn it, he didn’t want there to be something wrong with Sam…and he definitely didn’t want there to be something wrong with him. He just wanted to hunt monsters and maybe save a little kid. A simple, clean, kill-the-evil hunt. Why was that so much to ask?
It wasn’t. Not if he just decided that Sam really was a little tired. And that he really wasn’t hearing things. If they didn’t talk about this crap, it didn’t matter, right?
Dean forced himself to smile, letting some of the bounce back in. “Hey, we need to get on this, like now, if the kid has any shot of surviving it,” Dean said to Sam. Work would keep him busy, and keep them both from worrying about things that just didn’t matter.

Episode 5: Here without you

Original airdate: 2010.02.15

Summary:

Every night Sam dies. Cold or hot, it doesn’t matter; it always ends the same way - with Dean facing his fears, feeling the pain over and over again, the loss of everything. And every day the boy is there, waiting for his chance to get out... and get even.

Excerpt:

Suddenly, there was some noise in the background which gradually rose into shouted complaints from the other tables. Dean looked up and around and saw people staring in disgust at their plates. A child started sobbing while her mother called loudly for the waitress. Dean frowned and looked back at his brother, only to find him staring with a similar expression at his own plate.

“What-“

He shouldn’t have looked down. The food on Sam’s plate, which had been fine just a second ago, was suddenly mouldy and rotted. And when Dean looked down at his own plate he gagged slightly at the foul smell from a rotted burger.

He closed his eyes, counted to ten and heaved a deep sigh. “I guess the ritual didn’t work.”

Episode 6: Long Days Upon the Land

Original airdate: 2010.02.22.

Summary:

When the boys finally get a trail on their father, Sam and Dean embark on a dangerous journey to find him. However, with Sam preparing for the worst, Dean must ask himself if he can still follow his father’s orders, even if it could cost him everything he has.

Excerpt:

He glanced back at the screen, focusing again, as a dark figure came into the picture.

There was something strangely familiar about it--the way it moved, the shape of it.

The way it wielded the knife as it sliced the guard’s throat.

Sam whispered something like a prayer--or a curse, Dean wasn’t sure which.

In the back of his mind, Dean wondered what the point was. It wasn’t like faith had gotten Sam very far at this point.

Just then, the figure turned to the camera, saluting them. Bobby hit pause on John Winchester’s smiling face caught mid-gesture.

Episode 7: Charade of the Season

Original airdate: 2010.03.01.

Summary:

The boys are on the run from John until Sam decides to stop their aimless retreat in order to look into a case of a murdered 17-year old babysitter. Dean merely plays along to humour Sam but less than agrees to it. He's even less thrilled when John seems to have caught up with them. A cat and mouse game begins in which is clear who's the cat and who are the mice.

Excerpt:

The phone in his pocket began to ring again and Dean expected to see Bobby's caller ID. Apprehensively he looked at it and it read: Sam.

So much for that.

"Sam, you idiot. I told you--"

Dean stopped, holding the device a few inches away from his ear and pulled a grimace. Loud static hissed through the connection and it was even worse than his own supernatural tinnitus.

"Sam?" he yelled into the device, not receiving a comprehensible reply except for more static and then: "Dean? Dean... it's..." Sam screamed and the connection was interrupted.

But Dean was already running towards his car.

Episode 8: All Along the Watchtower

Original airdate: 2010.03.08.

Summary:

It feels like a stroke of luck when Sam and Dean are offered to stay in a former hotel in the middle of the woods outside of Cleveland. But the free lodging and the misleading peace turn into a trap when a mysterious storm all but takes them hostage. Now, of all times, the voices in Dean's head turn out to be more than voices after all.

Excerpt:

Sam was in his element and didn't miss a beat, diving into the research so they could figure this out. It felt good to have at least one constant in life even if it was Sam's geeky-ness.

Just as the thought crossed Dean's mind, a voice screamed in his head, the scream so loud that it echoed in his skull. He pressed his hands against his ears. Next thing he knew, Sam was by his side, holding him up and mumbling something.

"RUN!" Someone or something in Dean’s head yelled just as something heavy hit the roof above them, causing the lights to flicker furiously. Whatever it was it rolled down the roof as Dean lost his fight and surrendered to the blissful darkness.

Episode 9: Beyond This Illusion

Original airdate: 2010.03.15.

Summary:

Beyond This IllusionFollowing a case involving what they think is Mothman, Dean and Sam quickly find out not everything is what it first appeared. Angels aren’t who they thought they were and they are drawn once again into odd dreams and given unique insights into seals and their destiny.

Excerpt:

“Dean.”

The sound of Sam’s voice made Dean turn again. “Sammy.”

“Where are we?”

“I don’t know, Sam, it’s your dream this time. Do you remember what you were dreaming about?”

Sam shook his head and stared, wide-eyed at Dean. “It’s happening again. I don’t know how or why.”

“Maybe I can help,” a gruff voice said. At first Dean thought it was their father, but there was something slightly off about it, as if it was John’s voice combined with something else, overlayed by what sounded like Azazel.

He squinted at it and took a step closer, leaning to the side so he was firmly between whatever it was and Sam. “Who are you?”

Episode 10: Masquerading As A Man

Original airdate: 2010.03.22

Summary:

Present and future come together taking the brothers on a whirlwind tour of what might become of their lives. Sam’s powers, Azazel and Dean’s future meld together in a bizarre way and with a definite Stephen King theme park feel. Is this their reality, or is this something created by an old adversary?

Excerpt:

Other-Dean stumbled into the center of the cavern waving a handgun. Sam squinted at it, it wasn’t just any gun, it was a Colt, the Colt. Babbling, image-Dean staggered, taking as many steps sideways as he did forward. “Made me chose…should never made me choose…can’t choose…can’t…can’t.”

Sam leaned closer to his brother, his real brother. “That’s what you were saying before, in the Impala.”

“That wasn’t me, Sam. It looked like me, but it wasn’t.”

“I know, but…the dream you was saying that.” Sam shrugged. Dean’s eyes were round and he was slightly pale and very freaked out which wasn’t helping Sam remain calm and cool. In fact, it was making him feel the exact opposite.

A flash of light and Azazel materialized out of thin air. He stalked a slow circle around image-Dean. “You know what you have to do.”

Image-Dean used the barrel of the Colt to scratch at his forehead, “Not choosing.”

Episode 11: Wings Off a Butterfly

Original airdate: 2010.03.29

Summary:

Stressed out by the vague plans of angels and demons, Sam and Dean try to get themselves back on track with a simple hunt. However, for the Winchester brothers, there is no such thing as simple, and the brothers soon learn with painful clarity that they will never escape what is in store for them and maybe, this time, they don’t want to.

Excerpt:

The demon didn’t stop, keeping his dark gaze keenly on Sam’s face. “You feel it, don’t you? You feel the darkness that’s in you. Just waiting for you to give in.”

Sam tried to shake his head, but he was frozen.

“They always give in,” the demon continued. “Maybe we should just speed things up.”

The demon straightened, the knife flashing in the air as he raised it swift and easy above Sam’s head.

Dean was still yelling, but Sam couldn’t hear anything now--nothing beyond the pounding of his own, tainted heart.

The knife descended before Sam could blink, and for a second, Sam knew he was going to die.

Episode 12: These Broken Wings

Original airdate: 2010.04.26

Summary:

In the aftermath of Alastair’s attack, the brothers are broken in mind and spirit. Despite Bobby’s best efforts, the boys continue to struggle with their fears and weaknesses. Can they conquer these new wounds in time to save each other? Or will they end up as victims after all.

Excerpt:

"Nothing I can't make right," John said. "But I need your help. You have to take care of my boys. Bobby. Please."

The request was plaintive, emphatic. If this was a con, it was a pretty damn good one.

But Bobby couldn't help it. He just couldn't. He could still remember John's face the first time he showed up on Bobby's doorstep all those years ago, those two damn rug rats in tow. They'd all been younger then, but John's face had been just as tired and grizzled as ever.

If he was honest, Bobby knew he'd been whipped since then. One look from John's deep, sad eyes, one glimpse at those two boys holding onto each other like they were all the other had--and Bobby had never even had a chance.

Resigned, Bobby picked up a piece of paper and a pencil. "I need a location, John," he said, voice tight and even. He had his priorities. The boys came first. Always.

"Fargo, Georgia," John repeated. "The hospital."

Bobby's panic sprang to life, questions coming to his tongue. But before he could ask anything, before he could utter another word, the line went dead, the dial tone resounding heavily in Bobby's ears.

Episode 13: Me and My Shadow

Original airdate: 2010.05.03

Summary:

Sam is seeing things that no-one else sees and it seems to be tied to his powers. Dean is watching Sam's increasingly odd behavior and is wondering where this all will end? Several incidents happen, one actually threatening their lives.

When Sam uses his powers to save lives while battling with himself over the action taken, it brings it all to the surface. Dean thinks Sam is in control. Sam is not so sure. Later, Sam's subconscious forces him to face his fear and look into himself to accept who he is, even the dark parts.

Excerpt:

Dean's hands gripped his shoulders hard, but Sam didn't budge. With Dean standing behind him, his only option was to let the Poltergeists' energies mirror off his own body to then collide with the walls and the shelves, then turn back and mirror off him all over. The whirlwind it created made the Poltergeists lose control and implode on themselves in a rain of sparks. And right there, in a zap of blinding light, Sam saw something that resembled a human figure. Like a bluish shadow, flickering in the light, like a warning. It was gone in a moment, but the image was like etched into Sam's awareness.

Episode 14: Tainted Trust

Original airdate: 2010.05.10

Summary:

Harvelle's Roadhouse is back in the business and Ellen invites the boys over. Shortly after their arrival hunters die in most gruesome ways, one by one, and the blame is quickly assigned to the Winchesters. All of a sudden they have to defend themselves against more than supernatural beings.
Excerpt:

“Sam!” Dean’s voice hissed in his ear, insistent and urgent. In his dream, Sam called out to Dean so he’d find him.

When a hand clapped over his mouth, Sam jerked awake, arms flailing, feet kicking. Another hand pressed down on his shoulder and a weight pushed down on Sam’s chest.

“Sam, shut up.”

“Humpft,” was all Sam could get out. Eyes opened wide, he scanned the room.

Dean, clad only in jeans, was crouched between the beds with one arm extended over Sam’s chest, the hand gripping his shoulder, keeping Sam in place. The hand that was over Sam’s mouth moved slowly to Dean’s lips, “Shhh.”

Sam heard shouting from outside, someone yelling that someone was dead, or about to be dead. He met Dean’s gaze and eased one elbow under him so he could sit up. Dean’s hand on his shoulder curled to a fist and pulled, helping Sam sit up further. Mouthing the words, “what’s going on?”

Episode 15: Rotted Roots of the Family Tree

Original airdate: 2010.05.17

Summary:

When Sam and Dean take a case from Bob regarding the latest development of the Apocalypse, they get a whole lot more than they bargained for when their father shows up. Now, Dean and Bob are sent on a quest through time to find John and Sam, and what they all find will teach them more than they wanted to know about family, trust, and following orders.

Excerpt:

They both saw the figure at the same time.

At the far end of the barn, was a man. Tall, darkly dressed, with his back to them. He was moving, his arms going up and down in fast, clean movements.

At first, Dean thought maybe it was a civilian. The landowner maybe. A demon would have been all over them by now.

Sam took a step closer, his gun lowering. He swallowed convulsively. “Dad?” His voice grated and threatened to break.

Episode 16: No Man’s Land

Original airdate: 2010.05.24

Summary:

The brother’s break between hunts is cut short when Dean hears something from the angels again. This time he hears something about a hunter, who has worked with the angels and who is apparently stuck in limbo. The boys decide to investigate, but Bob is not very forthcoming when they ask him so they decide to talk to the spirit of the dead hunter themselves. Only instead of bringing the spirit to them they end up going to the spirit, into Limbo! Now not only they have to find out what happened to the hunter and who they can trust they also have to figure out how to get out of there. Before the demons show up!

Excerpt:

"All right, so what do we do?” Dean asked. "The freakin' spell was supposed to bring him to us, not the other way around!”

"Well, ain't you got the knack for pointing out the obvious. This turn of events wasn’t even mentioned in that damned book,” Bobby grumbled. “This kinda throws everything for a loop.”

"And how do we get back?” Sam asked the even more important question.

"What, you two related or something? Just hang on while I figure out how to save all our asses. No wait, where do we turn for intel?” Bobby answered, feigning to think.

"Great, so now we are stuck here. Some saviors,” Dean muttered sarcastically.

Episode 17: Lunatic Fringe

Original airdate: 2010.05.31.

Summary:

The stress of fighting the apocalypse, dealing with his new ability, and trying to keep Sam safe are beginning to take a toll on Dean. Add to that both a geographically and emotionally unstable town and you have a recipe for disaster.

Excerpt:

Sam had been in earthquakes, they both had, but nothing like this, ever like this. Even spending a few years as a resident of California hadn’t prepared him for something of this magnitude.

The entire world twisted and bucked beneath them. The roar of the earth literally moving beneath them was joined by a general racket of alarms, shouts and screams from other people, things falling outside. Unlike the quake in Seven Trumpets, this one seemed to be felt by everyone if the sounds coming through their now shattered window were any indication.

Episode 18: A Matter of Principles

Original airdate: 2010.06.21.

Summary:

Caroga Town, NY. A boy drowns, supposedly pulled under water by some mystical creature. When Sam and Dean arrive they realize a group of hunters is already there, taking care of things in their own way. The new case is suddenly all about priorities and decisions. Wrong and right. And about consequences for Sam and Dean and - eventually - mankind.

Excerpt:

Fingers, white as bones and just as thin, reached out and Sam kneeled down, not even realizing that his feet and trousers were getting wet. With slow, measured movements he mirrored the creature's gesture. Their index fingers touched where air and water met and Sam could hear a voice from somewhere far a way. It was a scrambled mess, nonsense, just hissing and gurgling like a radio that was sending under water and it definitely came from the creature in front of him.

Sam bent his head lower and lower while the creature moved away and when his large body dove into the lake, it didn't even cause any disturbances. Just a smacking, hollow splash as he was sucked under water.

Episode 19: Daddy's Girl

Original airdate: 2010.07.12.

Summary:

A string of odd deaths in small town Ohio draw the Winchester brother's attention. They get another hard reminder: there is always a choice.

Excerpt:

Sitting on the wooden step was a toy train.
Bastard son-of-a-bitch.
Knowing it was probably a waste of time Dean hit the stairs and reached for the knob on the front door. Not locked. He hated the thought that Sam could be elsewhere right now-yeah, elsewhere, try the train tracks-while Dean nosed around the house. He had to be sure, though. You didn't leave any stone unturned, leave anything to chance. You made sure you had your facts straight before moving on. No emotion. Use your brain, Winchester, forget it's your little brother, the baby you raised, the young man you're so proud of-not that you'd ever tell him. Chick-flick moment. Keep your emotions in check, stop thinking of Sam.
Sitting in the middle of the living room floor was a little toy caboose.

Original airdate: 2010.08.09.

Summary:

People and things aren't always what they seem. The brothers find unlikely allies and shrewd enemies around every bend in the road. Stopping lucifer just got harder.

Excerpt:

“It’s a monster. We kill monsters. So what do you think, rock-salt, silver bullets, regular bullets, consecrated bullets?” He disappeared when the trunk popped open. The car shifted slightly signaling that Dean was rooting around in the weapons’ cache.

“How about no bullets?”

“What?” Dean’s head appeared beside the trunk door. “That’s ridiculous, what are we going to do, carve it up? Strangle it? Shooting it is fast, simple, humane and easy.”

“We can’t kill it, Dean.” Sam squared his shoulders and stood with hands on hips. “We’re not killing it.”

Original airdate: 2010.08.17.

Summary:

Earthquakes, tsunamis, erupting volcanoes…destruction as the world has not yet seen. The apocalypse has come and is knocking on the door and the last seal is the only thing that stands between the fall of mankind and Sam and Dean’s last stand.

Excerpt:

Only slowly, a few sounds filtered through the chaos and all of a sudden Dean realized how silent it was. Besides the screaming of the few hurt and some random calls of people searching for friends and family, there was deadly calm around them. No wind, no birds, not even the sound of traffic. Now it felt like a well-meant irony that this town had already been dead before.

The sun was rising in the east, unnaturally large and blood-red. Like a ball dipped in paint.

All but peaceful.

Just the deadly calm before the real storm.

Episode 22: Wayward Sons

Original airdate: 2010.08.23.

Summary:

To stop the Apocalypse choices must made and lines must drawn. Dean, Sam and John all must choose the right path to save themselves and a world forever altered. The choice to kill a father or a brother or a son, to fight side by side or die apart, the choice between Heaven or Hell. The choice between survival or death.

Excerpt:

Walking quietly from one door to the next, Dean checked them and the windows. Everything was intact and secure. He made his way to the service entrance, stepping outside for some fresh air. Slight movement in the shadows had his hand immediately reaching for his gun. In the next second the shadowy movement resolved more clearly. Hello, Dean.

He relaxed a small amount, hed always be wary around this visitor. We have it as done as itll get. Theres really only one sticky spot.

The figure in front of him nodded, but said nothing.

Dean was hit with a flash of inspiration so suddenly it nearly shoved him off his feet. He narrowed his gaze, studying his visitor closely. You can help. Sam and I, we cant do this alone, we need help. Your help. Ive never asked anyone for anything like this before, but I think I have an idea, if youll help us. Were out of options and have no where else to turn.

Nodding slowly was the answer Dean had hoped for. He blinked and was alone, Deans visitor had vanished.
