Gordon! Love it. Gordon’s interactions with the root doctor were fascinating along with all of your details sprinkled throughout the fic. I could really see and feel the setting. Kubrick makes such a great partner/foil for Gordon. His fanaticism makes Gordon look reasonable by comparison.

I let Sam Winchester go. Oh boy, I was expecting him to write about killing his sister but that wouldn’t have been very much like Gordon. This is perfect.

Thank you! The Gordon/Kubrick dynamic fascinates me; it's played for laughs in Bad Day, but Fresh Blood hints at something deeper, more sincere, and far more interesting. I didn't really get around to it here, but I'd like to excavate that some day...

This was so meaty for such a short story - great characterisation for both Gordon and crazy Kubrick, and I loved Mrs Alford too! Such an interesting interlude, I'm fascinated by the rootwork, and the sense of place was vivid.

I may even have a thought about who you are, dear anon - though I'm usually wrong. LOL

Thanks! Hopefully I didn't do a terrible disservice to rootwork of the region; I learned about it from talking to people in the area this is set and was able to find some decent academic sources on it, but I've never consulted a root doctor myself (and didn't feel right trying to).

Oh wow this was brilliant!!
I love character studies on side characters and Gordon was such a fascinating one. This slides so smoothly into canon and you absolutely nailed his voice (and Kubrick’s).
Marvelous job!!
I love the root doctor he went to see also. It’s a perfectly foreboding ending.

The specificity and oddness of this one is what makes it work - the root doctor's cures, but also Kubrick's T-shirt, for example. I'm always interested in Gordon stories and this one has so much going on under the surface. Love it!

Ahaha, the old "leave a bunch of things out of the text in hopes readers' imaginations will supply something better than you could" have maneuver. Glad that it worked in this case!
