Heh, your visual brain works scarily similar to my own. I am also reminded of this excerpt from one of my fav fics:

Bobby’s house is cold in the early mornings, but as soon as the sun gets over the horizon it heats up fast. The house and yard are full of metal, useless car parts and hubcaps, and they catch the light and turn Bobby’s junkyard into a glittering, blinding wasteland. The gleam worms its way into every room in the house, throwing refracted sunlight on the ceilings that shift and glimmer as though they’re living underwater.

Oh, that passage is just beautiful! I have a thing for the imagery of heat--I live in NQ in Australia, so I get it all year round.

I live in a temperate climate, but there's something about heat imagery, this feeling of time standing still or maybe otherwordliness that just appeals to me. One of my favourite childhood books is a tale about summer, too. :)
