The giggle moments in this part were awesome, and a much needed break from the angst.
And YAY! Balthazar and Gabriel and Metalicar.
And I really hope Cas gets to keep his armor because, in the immortal words or George Takei, oh my...
And the imagery in this, the last two episodes, has been enchanting and I wish the whole thing was illustrated, but that would be a crazy-ridiculous amount of work.
It was such a pleasure to work on this with Swordofmymouth, believe me. We're both pretty imaginative, but she soars so high it is like being chained to a comet! We're both the kind of writers who look at really wild ideas and think, why the hell not??!! Let's do that!!! as opposed to how? We had all sorts of images when we were brainstorming this... we wanted Cas to drive the Impala straight into Hell, we wanted a huge fire monster like the one in the first LOTR movie, we wanted an aerial dogfight of angels wearing armor, we wanted Hell to be a "real" world and very mundane in a lot of ways, as a callout to Crowley's endless line, and yeah, we wanted to find Balthazar and Gabriel down there. We wanted this to be a very personal odyssey for Cas, in which he would find a way to live with himself after what he did, and we wanted to reference Dean's Righteous Man status much as Godstiel had in #1. We're both so thrilled with how this installment turned out!
So, first time commenting on this masterpiece . . I feel like there aren't enough superlatives to describe it. The characterization, on everyone? Nailed. The weaving of an incredible (and realistic???) narrative, in which every line is ahem, significant, in which you need to slow down to savor every word as it comes? Perfect. Such a powerful blend of adventure, romance, horror, mystery, and suspense! All of the emotional elements are such accurate punches in the gut. When Cas and Dean were falling in love, it made me think of my first boyfriend. When Cas grieved, I grieved with him. And when Cas drove the Impala into Hell, the imagery was so badass I felt like I was going to puke. Chevy Runs Deep, eh? This last acid-trip through Hell has been ridiculous! The Flaming Impala? Am I detecting a Neil and Terry reference, or am I reading too much into things? And "Today is a good day to die?" Oh, Cas, I'm sure you're finding some Klingon honor under the Lake of Fire, but Jadzia Dax would remind you that you've got a reason to survive!
Hey there: I wanted to thank you for your kind words! Everyone - writers and artists alike - put a lot of thought and effort into the project, and we're thrilled it has resonated for so many Casfans (and more) who might have wanted an alternative to S7. It was hugely enjoyable to plot it all out, and a labor of love to write (though stressful at times!). I'm thrilled you've enjoyed it, and especially these finale chapters, which Sword and I put so much effort into over a period of about four months prior to them posting. We love these characters and it was really gratifying to take them places the canon show can't/won't! ;-)
