I've completed the survey and I hope my answers will help you in reviewing the comms services etc.
I know that the newsletters eat up a lot of time and work, but they are what I use most regularly to access recs etc. Maybe instead on monthly newsletters you could consider combining a few months together into 6 or maybe even four a year?
Thanks so much for your feedback. :) We are considering doing a "roundup" of recs that are made to the themes during the month (or maybe two). We'll see what the response is like.
Regarding Delicious, I've had my account since around 2007 and used it a bit at first, then kind of forgot about it. I've very recently started using it again to tag fanworks, and though I'm only following one person so far, I have discovered work via links that are recommended.
Regarding Tumblr, I follow some blogs on Tumblr but honestly I still don't quite understand how it all works, and it's annoying when something fills up my dashboard because it's been reposted a lot. So I don't always check it, and if I do, I don't always make it through all the new posts.
The themed archives are the main part of the community - we made a big splash about them when we first opened but haven't advertised them much since (*makes a note to advertise them some more…).
Thanks so much for your feedback. I think, even if we trim down the newsletter we'll still rec old and new works. :)
I don't use Delicious or the themed archives. I do use Tumblr and if the community moved there I would follow it. My preference for all things fic is AO3. If there is a way to subscribe to the community from there, that would be great. Perhaps you could just move everything there so we could follow it by subscription and that would take less time than lj? I don't know the ins and outs of how posting in the various places works.
Hmmm, interesting point. I have no idea how that would work on AO3. We could start a community there (which has been considered), but my understanding is that we'd only be able to post fics that have been posted on AO3 (?). The LJ archive has fics from all over the place. Though, it still might be worth it just or AO3 fics anyway).
Hey! we're not going anywhere! :) The newsletter will stay in some form we think. Probably just a little simpler. Maybe just links to recs made to the archive.
