That was something that baffled me - was the curse actually broken? I can see it in two ways where either 1) the curse imploded on itself since 'white man' was there even though it was supposed to kill them all or 2) nobody better go back to Oasis Plains unless they want bugs in their morning oatmeal.

You're right - Dean even says there is no way to break a curse. His Plan A was to just get the family out of the area. But when the swarm came too fast, Plan B was to wait out the swarm until morning and hope they'd go away. In terms of plans? Rather lame.

I think I'm going to re-edit the post and change "The boys break the curse by waiting it out" to something more like, "There is no mention of whether or not the curse is actually broken. The boys save the Pike family by fending off the bug swarm until morning, since the curse will have run it's course on the seventh day."

Oh, and ...bugs in their morning oatmeal? Thank you for that visual. *L* Raisins...yum. :)

Still, I wonder if they had managed to stick around and stay alive through the end of the curse would the curse itself be broken? Or would that not even be possible? It's kind of like a promise (in the corny sense, bear with me). "I promise I'm going to finish eating that piece of toast by the end of the morning". Noon rolls around. "I...did not finish eating that piece of toast". Promise broken? Curse broken too? Or maybe I'm just overspeculating.

Mommy, my raisins are moving.

Well, the curse basically said that "No white man will tarnish this land or nature will rise up and protect the valley." Dictionary.com says that "tarnish" means "To detract from or spoil; taint". So as long as no one "tarnished" the land then everything was kosher. It was only when they started building houses, which detracted from the aesthetic pleasure of the land, that the curse kicked in again.

But what I want to know is why the curse only sent a couple of bugs after Lynda and Dustin, but the Pike family got a gigantic swarm. (And why is that swarm looks wrong every time I type it? *L*) Yes, there were more people that time, but really? A couple of well trained bees could have probably handled them. And how come Dustin was the only unlucky construction worker to die? Was he doing really bad work, so was tarnishing the land worse than the others? *L*
