...when know one knows the origin of the name expect those weird friends of their mum's with the occult-type tattoos who come round to watch the DVDs of that old TV show.

If I was going to have children, I'd name one something that I could shorten to 'Cas'. XD

I have to admit, I thought about this before - I always liked 'Cassander' a lot - but I decided that allowing the nickname to be a factor in your decisions is a little too weird in the end. If you want to call your child something that would mean 'Castiel' to you, just name him that. Regardless of where it came from, it's still a beautiful name and children will always find something to pick on. That's just how they are.

I can understand wanted to call your kid 'Cas,' but you could use something more conventional, like Lucas, and still get to call your baby Cas. Giving the full on Castiel? I agree, those kids are going to have to have some problems growing up.

Although it's amazing that the fandom has had an impact on a national scale.

And I noticed Snookie was on there too. At least in a decade no one will know what Jersey Shore is. The girls are just going to get nookie jokes a lot.

Or if society's approval is that important to them, they could give a child a conventional first name and a fandom second name. Don't you think that it's a little strange to call the kid 'Cas' and associate it with 'Castiel', when the kid himself associates it with 'Lucas'? :)

Hilarious!

I'm far from having any children, but I thought that naming a son 'Castiel' would actually be kind of cool. (Now knowing this I wouldn't inflict that on him, though. :) ) Usually I'm kind of dismayed by people naming their kids after characters, but - well - it's a legitimate name of an Angel of the Lord, so!
