Sleeping With Three: AUs of the Sam/Dean/Jess Variety

Oct 13, 2012 12:58

This past big bang season I had the chance to read a phenomenal Sam/Dean/Jess fic, which reminded me of an OT3 big bang I'd read last year, which got me searching for more. While life got in the way and didn't allow me to eat up all that I'd have liked, my craving was sated and more by these lovely stories.

There Is A Crack In Everything (That's How The Light Gets In) by beckaandzac [ R | 7.7k ]
summary: Dean comes to stay with Sam at Stanford after he's seriously injured on a hunt. While Dean regroups, Sam has to deal with his not-so-simple feelings for his brother, and for the girl in his class who smiles at him a lot and drops books on his feet.
Oh my god, my love for this fic! Just, goodness gracious, so many gorgeous turns of phrase, such absolutely perfect pacing. Basically, it's just completely enthralling. I mean, it left my heart hurting for days (in like, the best possible way).

summary: Rogue wildlife attacks? Check. Virulent, incurable pandemic? Double check. Relentless string of natural disasters? Check, check, check. Dean's got it hard enough dealing with the collapse of modern society, so imagine his dismay when he goes to Stanford Law to fetch the brother he's been painfully in love with for most of his life and finds that brother happily married. When Sam, Dean, and Jess set off across the country to find their dad, it's all they can do just to stay alive, much less stay true to each other.
Just thinking about this fic gets my heart thrumming. It was my first OT3 fic ever, and while it didn't ruin all others, it definitely set the bar high. It's comedy, it's romance, it's thriller, it's action, it's horror. It's honestly more than one could ever think to ask of a fic, plus more, and I mean, post-(or current?)apocalyptic fic isn't even my thing.

summary: After sharing one weekend with Sam and his brother, Jess never expects to see Dean Winchester again. He comes back a year later and reluctantly agrees to take Jess along on a hunt to find their father. Sam and Jess return to Palo Alto to find their home in ruins and have no choice but to join Dean on the road.
Regretfully, I haven't had time to reread, but let's just say that one flies through this verse in mere moments and is left wanting more. There's so much heartwrenching, and heartbreaking, and heartwarmingness throughout it all, not to mention the hot. And the way the author paints the boys and Jessica, well, she utterly cemented S/D/J as my OT3.

True, We've Demolished A Thing or Two by clex_monkie89 [ R | 39k ]
summary: The idea is simple: Save People. Hunt Things.
When Sam went to Stanford, it was to save people in a different way than he was raised to. He never thought for a second that he might fall for a Hunter.
Dean never thought it would be so hard to save people, but they all keep saving themselves.
Jess never dreamed she'd find the perfect guy who would understand her job as a Hunter, but here she is bonding with two of them.
Now if they can just keep from killing each other, it might just be true love.
Oh. my. gosh. The humor! This entire fic has pitch perfect dynamics between all three, it's got great pacing and detail, and so many laughs! And while no ounce of levity is spared, a major punch is still packed. It's so heartlifting and happymaking, and it will most definitely put a smile on your face.

summary: Sam tells Dean he can’t go to Jericho because of his Stanford interview. Some things change, other things stay the same.
Beautifully shifted POVs and a healthy dose of angst really make this "Jess survives" AU shine. Every single thing is clean, deliberate and written with care, and the author has you ready to tear up right from the start because it is just so perfectly them.

So these are what I've got to rec for this OT3. I'm sad, though, because I had a few others on the to-read list but simply ran out of time. Let me know your faves so they can get moved to the top? (Also, please tell me I'm not the only one who wibbled at Dean mentioning Jess on Show this week?! Needs moar.)
