"Good King Wenceslas" is the carol sung most frequently in my house. Our entire family knows the whole thing. The grandchildren may be spotty on some of the later verses, but they know if anything gets left out.
It is not, however, a Christmas carol here, although it can be sung during Christmas holidays. It's the song for Grandpa to sing while brushing your teeth, if you happen to be a small child (modern American dentists recommend against permitting children to brush their own teeth until they're at least eight years old). None of the grandchildren are small children any more, but they're still fond of the song, which also featured as the song for Grandpa to sing while we figured out how much congruence there was between the road we were on and the road portrayed on the map, or while we restacked the firewood and figured out how the woodstove worked.
I think the simplicity of the tune appeals to younger people - it certainly did to me at that age. It reminds me of those songs you can sing in rounds, which is something that's a lot of fun when you are a kid.
