[ it's been a while since anyone's heard from Beatrice. The door to the room she's claimed in Parkor Estate has not opened for the past week or so, ever since the masquerade-locked and shut against all of Splendor, it seems, with nothing to indicate that it's even occupied. No one enters the room through the door. No one leaves. Even today, this ( Read more... )

A game?

[ cackles. ]

Indeed. A game played to make the Locals acknowledge our presence.

I see! What kind of game is it, though?

If you wish, you can think of it as a challenge. The first one to successfully get the attention of the Locals wins, all right? Kihihihi-what else can this game be but an entertaining one?

[He was just wandering around nearby, investigating various things quietly. He smells her before he sees her, gets to see the whole butterfly show. Feeling like shouting up at her would be an awful lot like the chihuahua in his head barking at something sparkly, he decides to use the seal instead.]

You're a witch? That was real showy.

[ from her vantage point, it's easy to see anything below her on the streets for a good distance around. So, when Beatrice spots the boy, she grins and makes another small gesture. Some of the butterflies immediately fly over, hovering around Bambi as if very curious.

The witch herself, however, continues to use the Seal to speak. ]

Child's play, nothing more than that! It is hardly the most I can do with my magic, of course.

[Those butterflies really are very distracting, and the strong scent of unfamiliar magic that comes with them has him sneezing, a low little rrr-ruff at the fluttering things before he gets control of himself again.]

Think the biggest things are the ones that ain't showy, right?

[He doesn't entirely expect her to answer the question. Witches generally treat him like the dog he sort of is, there for petting and playing and maybe more useful things like guarding, but not for carrying on conversations with.]

[ that'd be underestimating this witch a little bit. No, she's not the kind to sit down for heart-to-heart conversations with her servants, her furniture-but they are raucous and entertaining enough to stave off that poison of her kind: boredom. Bambi is certainly an amusing sight right now, and just a bit curious... she's never seen anyone react to her magic in like that before. ]

Hmm... you could indeed say that, though it would be foolish to try and guess the extent of my capabilities from something as simple as this. Know that many have already tried only to fail, okay?

But, perhaps I will consent to show you... no, the entire city, just how far the Endless magic can reach one day, wahahahahaha!

[ B) ]

Hoh. And so, you would give up, without even trying yourself? Kyahahahaha, I see, I see-the way humans react when confronted with the impossible has not changed even in this place!

Feel free to do so, any display of magic you create shall just make it easier for me to find you and bring about your DESTRUCTION.

[ a slight pause. ]

.... Kihihihi. That declaration may be well-spoken, but rest assured that it will be far more difficult to destroy me than you may believe. Though these Locals will not spare me a glance, many of the other "guests" here will not hesitate to accept magic as a reason behind any strange events.

Perhaps, however, there is a Detective here, whom you cannot FOOL. Your defeat is simply a matter of TIME.

[ ... oh, that is familiar. So familiar that it's preposterous, for her to be hearing it again.

Beatrice knows that there's a very real chance she might perish at Dlanor and her Detective's hands... so this isn't a game to her, not truly. The challenge has already been issued, and so she must step up and answer it. ]

Time? You dare speak of time to me, a Witch of the Endless? [ *cackle*cackle*cackle* ] Foolish, bungling, incompetent! On this gameboard, where the very air you breathe is soaked and dripping with magic, there might as well not be any limits at all to what I can do! I'll make my game last for all eternity on this gameboard just to see the look on your faces when you finally give up, all riiiight?

[ ukraine has been watching that display of magic for a while now, and is just standing and looking up at beatrice, her jaw dropped a bit. ]

W...wow! T-that... t-that was amazing, M-miss!

[ oh...? that voice sounds familiar... didn't she speak with her during the masquerade? The memories of that night are more distasteful now, given what Beatrice had learned... yet she did remember having a pleasant conversation with that girl.

Well then. She might be a fitting person to start with. Beatrice inclines her head a little, acknowledging Ukraine's presence. The little motion seems to draw some of the butterflies, for they start to almost swarm around Beatrice, their many wings obscuring her from view.

When they flutter away again, the witch has disappeared-only to reappear in front of Ukraine. ]

As I've said, it is nothing more than a small magic. [ a cackle. ] But I suppose it is easy to forget how impressive it may be to others, when they are unaccustomed to seeing it.

W-woah! [ Ukraine watches all this with the same amazed expression on her face, and can't hold back a gasp and Beatrice's disappearance. When Beatrice suddenly reappears, in front of her as well, she nearly jumps back in surprise. ]

S-small...? It, it isn't small! I've never seen anything like this in my life! A-and I've lived for a long time... how did you do that?

[ ...is that so. Now that is truly interesting. ]

As I've said, with my magic. I have lived as a witch for a thousand years, so it is almost as natural as breathing.
