It is because this is not night time but, in fact, an eclipse. It means that the sun is being blocked by the moon. I will admit, this is lasting an unusually long time but I do not believe we should panic over it just yet.

Normally I would say that it is due to the natural movement of the planets and stars, but I do not believe that to be the case as this is taking far too long to come to an end. Also, it is dark because one body of light is being blocked by another.

But it stayed dark outside longer than it does in Tokyo...
