Professor Stein has departed the city.

It's a relief, however, that those bubbles have finally disappeared. If the city is going to act so childish, it could at least make sure to douse people evenly with the paint.

[This is Reborn in his gathering-information phase]

Hn, I seem to have missed out on something exciting.

Oh? You mean the bubbles?

Well, just in general really. This place seems quite eventful.

Yes, it is. Annoyingly so, sometimes.

[The feed begins with the sound of a bird chirping, but the seal quickly catches up and begins to translate:]

The bubbles were enjoyed by many. I think this made the city happy.

When the people are happy, the city is as well? It's not the first time I've heard that speculation.

The city wishes to see us happy, and so when we are, its wish is granted, yes?

Perhaps. You have something directly that supports this idea?

. . . How would it do that?

Dousing people with something is going to be messy and uneven unless it covers their bodies entirely.

That's precisely what I mean. They shouldn't do things halfway!

I'd rather not be entirely covered with paint.

Avoiding it was difficult enough.

[ and not entirely successful ]

As would I, but if the choice was between partially and fully covered in paint, how could anyone stand partial??

Do you believe it has a consciousness?

I've seen too much evidence to think otherwise.

I might think it a machine revolved about by these "Locals" --

Mute, though, in all respects, so I suppose there's no telling with any certainty.

Yes, it doesn't seem especially forthcoming. Professor Stein and I were actually speculating on that, prior to his disappearance...

DAT WISH. voice; splendorsoul May 15 2011, 02:06:55 UTC
[Well.

Whether the "I wish" was a deliberate wish or just polite speech, the city has interpreted it as it wishes. Of course, the filter is somewhat restricting, and as such the message reaches only a very small amount of Locals.

In fact, it only reaches two, and it appears only one of them is eager to take the call.]

[The woman, tucked away in the back rooms of the library, spares a moment to consider just how obvious the wish requires her to make herself. Pleased with the conclusion (oh, how she adored vague wishes), she exchanges her book for a seal.

A light laugh can be heard.]

I considered it rather fun, actually.

[a pause]

Though, I suppose that sentiment might be different if I had gotten covered myself.

[ Kid doesn't realize he's actually reached one of the people he was trying to contact, as the voice is unfamiliar -- but then, so are most of the new arrivals. ]

Is that so? Congratulations on avoiding it then. Regrettably, I was not able to. [ pause ] Though it's something Patty would've liked, I think.

You have my apologies, then. [And they're genuine ones, actually, since it isn't as if she had zero involvement regarding the bubbles.]

I have yet to meet anyone that goes by that name.

Thank you, though none are needed. [ always unfailingly polite ]

Ah, no. Patty is one of my partners back home. She is... [ a polite euphemism for childish ] energetically entertained. Yellow is her favourite colour and so, when the paint bubbles were everywhere, I found myself thinking she'd have enjoyed it.
