[It appeared that bridge whose name Luke had been fretting over had just become the least of his worries.

So yeah, he'd found that music box, and yeah, the music had been kind of pretty and he might have zoned out a bit while listening to it, but... he couldn't  have like... fallen apart and died that quickly, could he? Without even noticing? But ( Read more... )

I don't know who those people are but if it helps, you're in a city called Splendor.

[Catches that whisper, hurries to reassure him]

A-And don't worry, you're not dead!

[The sound of a voice coming out of his pocket makes him jump, which in turn lets him dig through it and find the seal. Which still leaves problem number two, which is that they're someone completely unfamiliar but... I guess right now they're somebody... which is better than being alone...]

B-but... how? This isn't anywhere on Auldrant I've ever heard of...

[And since he's not on his home planet he must be dead right?]

Auldrant?

[He feels like he's heard that name from somewhere. But who...? shaking that off]

That's because it isn't. We're in another world, I think becuase this city didn't exist back in my world either [and he's pretty sure that's not just because his geography knowledge was really lacking] -- the music boxes, they brought lots of people from different worlds here. I-It all sounds really strange, I know but it's true!

The music box? [He definitely remembers that - that was the thing that'd made him zone out - but did it really pull people from other worlds? He supposed it was possible, but... if it was true then...]

What happens to our own worlds? Are they still okay?

[Have yourself a fellow newbie! Minori's finally been able to figure out how to work the seal and she's been enjoying listening to voices and looking at some of the videos that comes out of it. When she hears a voice, she decides to interact with him! Also, her sharp ears have totally heard that little thing he just said.]

Afraid of death? Don't be, citizen! Don't you know, the fear of death is the most unjustified of all fears! [Oh, who are you to talk, Minori; you're just as scared of death as the other person.]

[Um... I guess you're doing your best to help Minori, but... so not what Luke needs to hear right now. He's only recently started appreciating the fact that there is value in his own life. Not to mention it's harder to think rationally when you're worked up.

It may be a minute or two before she gets a reply]

I'm not scared! [which is a lie] I have stuff I still need to do! I can't be dead yet...

[Well, that didn't seem to work. TIME FOR PLAN B!]

Don't worry, I don't think you're dead! Dead people walking and talking are terrifying because most of the time they appear as zombies or mummies! [..and then suddenly she is presented with a certain possibility, and in a small voice, she asks:]

Wait... you're not a zombie... right?

[voice] And now I need to go remember if there were zombie monsters in Abyss XD oldest7yearold April 27 2011, 17:33:56 UTC
Zombie...? [what is this he doesn't even] I... don't think so.

I shouldn't turn into anything when I die anyway though, right? [The way his fonon separation works he's just going to disintegrate into nothing, isn't he?]

[so many new voices! that can only mean that something is happening. and maybe that something will bring Jam here. or even other little people like Chey. and they all start where he starts, so this is where Chey is today when Luke arrives.

he is perched on a low-hanging lamppost, sitting on his knees with his fingers curled around the rim of the lamp. the shouting of names makes him flinch, immediately zoomed in on the source, watching without blinking, following him as he meanders.

that's no Klovodokaravi...]

[Sorry Chey, but Luke's a bit too worried at the moment to be paying attention to his surroundings all that much. You may notice that he's not carrying a lot - just a notebook and pen, and his seal, which he found when he felt an unfamiliar weight in his pocket.

At one point he will stop and stare up at Chey at he's wandering, but... doesn't really seem to take in what he's seeing, as his eyes are not very in-focus. After a few seconds, he looks down shakes his head, and resumes wandering.

Might need to catch his attention.]

[he shrinks and cowers when he's seen - er, not seen, but eyes in his direction are all the same to him. doing so disrupts his own accessories: long, blue ribbon around the shoulders and neck, a Legionnaire's flight ring threaded through it to be carried. it gets pushed off the lamp as Chey shuffles backward, swinging like a pendulum with enough weight to give a feeling of being pulled down. down to big people with grabby hands and big teeth--

Chey flails and fidgets a little, tugging at the ribbon until he somehow gets free of it. it drops, making a distinct tinkling sound on the ground.]

[Minor distraction is a go. The noise does a little to shake him out of his brooding as he glances over at the source of it, the ring and ribbon, then up again to the strange... creature on top of the lamppost, this time actually paying a bit more attention to what he's seeing. And he walks over, stopping a few feet away from the fallen ring and ribbon, looking hesitantly from them to their owner. He's not sure if he should pick it up yet.

What do I do this is awkward what are they can they understand me I still need to find out if I'm dead] Uh... h-hey?

[Someone familiar has definitely heard the transmission over the Seals. It takes Asch a while to actually accept it, but after he has, it's only a matter of minutes before he manages to tap back into the fonic link. He hasn't been able to get it to work in months, and now that the replica's here, Asch isn't sure how he feels about it.]

[Actually scratch that, mostly he's just irritated because it means someone will have to explain everything. Luke may or may not have his wanderings interrupted by the telltale headache that means someone's listening in.]

[ajiofsjfgaowe DAMMIT OW.

The unexpectedness of the headache causes Luke to stumble onto one knee, groaning and grasping the sides of his head as his skull felt like it was about to split open. However, his emotional reaction is very different, because this kind of headache could only mean one of two things - Lorelei or Asch. And Lorelei was currently trapped inside Van, so... ]

Asch?

[As if it could be anyone else. Asch mentally rolls his eyes, but he doesn't respond right away. There are about a million things he could say (none of them exactly pleasant), but a certain incident comes to mind. It's not guilt so much as his own pride that prevents Asch from immediately berating his replica. He's not happy, but at least he's not flying off the handle.]

Humph. It's about time you showed up.

[As much venom as the reply shows, Luke is still extremely relieved (or not, if he really had died) that you're here, Asch. It means that... well he's not all by himself in this city. However it does mean he's about to ask you some of those pesky questions that annoy you so much]

Sh-showed up? What's going on?

[This voice sounds kind of familiar... In any case:]

...Please don't worry. You're not dead, you're in Splendor now. [pause.] ...A-and I know this may sound unbelievable but this is a completely different world.

[Thinking of Asch, maybe? It's a common mistake to make. 8|]

A-a different world? [this can't be good] But.... what happened to Auldrant?

[Hm, yeah. This must be it. 8|]

Um, nothing happened to it. [Wait a moment... Auldrant?] You're from... the same world as Natalia. And, come to think of it... your voice sounds like Asch's... [He know realizes he makes you even more confused.]

I-in any case, you found a music box, didn't you? Nobody knows why, but it brings people who found it or heard it here, to Splendor.

[voice] oldest7yearold April 27 2011, 18:11:45 UTC
Wait... Natalia? And Asch? They're here?!

[Thankfully the knowledge of their presence at wherever this place was - Splendor, this guy had called it...? - kept away any sting that might have resulted from the "oh you sound a lot like Asch comment" - though admittedly it wasn't stinging as much as it used to, but all the same...]

The music box? [So that's what that thing had done...] I have to get back though, I can't stay here... Do you know where I can find Natalia and Asch? [He'll ask about how to leave soon enough, but he's not leaving anybody from his world so long as he knows about them behind.]
