[ sorry to ruin your calm, here's the storm. or the precursor to it at least. ah, man, it's not that he's getting used to a peaceful life away from his job (instead chasing around a seventeen-year-old boy, oops) but somehow it's different to see Shizuo when he wasn't personally looking for a fight. then again, he was never really looking for a fight with him per se but there were times when he was okay with the possibility of that outcome.

this was not one of those times. and those times came less and less frequently in Splendor. in fact, most of the time when he came upon Shizuo, he'd silently duck out of the way and hope he wasn't spotted. but he hadn't noticed him until he was already close by unfortunately. ]

Oh, it's you. I'm surprised you managed to blend in so well.

[as for Shizuo, he'd been somewhat preoccupied searching for that young woman - his friend, even? - that he hadn't been actively looking out for Izaya. though, their last encounter may also be part of the reason for that - that wasn't something he was eager to see again anytime soon.

he glanced upward toward the familiar voice, expression immediately going sour. at least he was presenting himself normally this time, but he was still the last person Shizuo ever wanted to speak to.]

The hell do you want? [a rematch from last time? whether either of them likes it or not, what else could possibly happen?]

[ too bad Izaya's all he's going to find. he sighs, shrugs his shoulders. ]

Nothing. Amazing, right?

[ this was probably not going to work but let's play it cool anyway. maybe he can work himself up into actually wanting a fight. (unlikely. but he can try.) ]

Are you keeping busy? What are you up to?

[ actually, it's kind of like an annoying little child, asking what you're doing every five seconds even when your answer hasn't changed a bit since the last time they asked. ]

[he frowns, somehow managing to calmly get out a cigarette and light it. this is one of those strange moments of calmness before he completely loses it, isn't it?]

Heh. Amazing that you'd show your face in front of me after last time.

[--but enough about that. He wishes it were an easier memory to shake off.]

[Here's another guy who looks pretty calm despite this mess. They are pretty easy to spot, luckily, since they're not fissling with their seals, running around like headless chicken, or more or less angrily demanding answers. Mello approaches Shizuo, friendly, curious, but not entirely without caution. Despite his modern clothing, mainly black leather, he wears a rather anachronistic looking saber at his hip, and one hand rests carelessly on its hilt.]

You don't look like a new arrival.

[Shizuo tilts his head upward, regarding the weapon curiously but not giving it much of a second thought. He won't feel threatened until he's given a reason to - and even then, it's debatable whether he's even capable of expressing fear. He's got his hands in his pockets, a cigarette balanced on the corner of his mouth.]

Been here for too damn long, now. I'm surprised this place ain't sick of me.

[Cigarette smoke provides a certain sense of familiarity for Mello. He doesn't mind it in the least, nor does he mean to threaten, merely giving a shrug.]

No such luck so far, I guess. From the looks of it though, there's worse places to be stuck.
