Well, she had said eight forty-five. Except that Lelouch was a little early, even though he had known exactly where he was going. The time he had spent here was spent observing and figuring out where everything was, so that he knew where most buildings were here now.

As he arrived at the bookstore, he drew his coat around him closer. It was cold, way too cold after the way the weekend had been. Every time he figured out something else about this place, it seemed like he got more questions. Or, more bluntly put, a never ending puzzle.

Well, he’d figure it out eventually.

Lelouch walked into the store now, glancing over at Nura. “Would you happen to be Mrs. Dox?” Even though it was a rhetorical question, he still hadn’t exactly seen what she looked like yet. It would be a good conversation starter, at least.

"That'd be me," Nura said, leaning up from her counter. "I'm guessing you're one of my faithful employees?"

“Yes. We’ve spoken before - I’m Lelouch.” Remembering their conversation only made him remember she was a type of person he’d need to be on his guard with. He didn’t let his guard down for anybody here, period. Those were mistakes he wasn’t going to repeat.

"And I'm your boss--and please do smile, Lelouch. We do have customers coming in later, and if not your shirt smiling, then perhaps your face?" She gave him a challenging wry smile.

Kid arrived at the shop precisely at the five minutes past noon that Nura had requested, and he had the journal she'd had delivered to him tucked under one arm. He'd been quite taken aback by the suddenness of having it sent to him, but quickly warmed up to the idea once he'd counted the pages and discovered that there were an even number. He fully intended to thank her properly for such a thoughtful gift.

The idea of learning a new language intrigued him greatly. He'd never actually learned a language before, not properly, they had started out already in his head. Kid had never given it much thought before but now, faced with the prospect of trying it for the first time, left him eager with anticipation.

"Hello?" he greeted as he entered the store.

Nura immediately looked to Kid, smiling brightly. Same tone of voice. She came out from behind the counter to scoop Kid up into her arms and give him a tight hug before setting him back down before he could get a word out. "Hello yourself, DeeDee! You really are Death's kid!" She patted his head affectionately. "I see you got the book I had Pongo send!"

Kid flailed ineffectually when Nura hugged him, partly at the motion and partly because his brain just processed that she was actually intending to call him that.

He wasn't sure what his arrival had to do with his father, but he nodded (still looking a bit dazed) to her and got out, "A-Ah, yes, thank you for sending it" before the overwhelming urge to straighten all his clothes took over. He couldn't stand looking rumpled, even if it had been from something as benign as a hug.

When he was done, he looked back up at her. "It's really all right if you call me Kid though."

Nura pinched one of his cheeks, smiling sweetly. "But I like DeeDee much better," she smiled, bending down to pat Kid's shoulder. "Don't you?" She let go of his cheek, having not pinched so hard. And then for good measure, she ruffled his hair until it was a mess.
