30 Days of TV meme Day 08

Day 08 - everyone should watch: Leverage. Okay, it has plot holes big enough to drive a truck through, and the cons can get ridiculous, but if you love a show with an awesome team dynamic, that treats its quirky characters with respect and doesn't go for the obvious stereotypes, and is just plain FUN to watch, Leverage is for you. It was just ( Read more... )

Leverage is the show where I've had the most sheer fun watching it but one of the great things that makes it brilliant it is the DVD commentaries and podcasts, John Rogers and Chris Downey and the cast and writers of the show provide amazing background and behind the scenes descriptions about making the show. If you haven't got the DVDs you really are missing out.

I've got another Leverage vid for you. Go check out kestrelsempai.com/mv and watch her video House Rules. The song is by Christian Kane and is about season one.

OMG, i'm so with you on Leverage. We found it by accident over the holiday break (marathon on some channel or another at the 'rents' house). It was hard to turn it off.

As you say, it's tractor-trailer permeable in the plot-holes/contrivance department, but it harkens back to those 80s TV shows with awesome teams of awesome geeks doing what they're good at to help people out -- part Equalizer, part MacGyver, part Misfits Of Science (remember that short-lived wonder?), part A-Team, part ... (the list, like the beat, goes on) ...

Anyways, just had to chime in. Loved the show.

Also, K and i got a kick out of the fact that the British con artist is played by Gina Bellman, who we'd only seen before on Coupling, which made her ultra-cool ultra-savvy character on Leverage that much funnier. (It was kinda like when i realized that Twilight Sparkle was voiced by Tara Strong, at which point i started hearing everything she said as if it were being said by Raven from Teen Titans, and hilarity ensued!! (OK, i just totally went off the ( ... )

It really is just such a fun and watchable show.

(Ha! Did not catch that Tara Strong does voice work on MLP. That's awesome. And yes, totoally will now hear everything TS says as Raven.)

It totally floored me. I had gotten into the habit of skimming voice credits on some animation i was watching (e.g., only found out about the Mark Hamill / Joker connection recently -- also floored me!). I saw the list on MLP and was like "Tara Strong?!? No way!". The next ep i watched, tho, i could hear it, and suddenly everything Twigh said sounded sarcastic. :) Great stuff!

My latest voice-talent geek-out moments were hearing Artie Johnson (of Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In) doing his classic German military shtick on an ep of Justice League, and Tim Curry playing a hateful, trouble-making television personality on Young Justice. Love it!

Yay Leverage! It is totally just fun, and hearkens back to all the shows I grew up on. That and Castle are my go-to (modern) shows for when I have a bad cold and just want to curl up on the sofa and indulge.

Incidentally, I love that you're still doing this meme. You ought to reach Day 30 about when Q starts high school. ;)

Hee! I said pretty much the same thing to Aurora over on the dreamwidth version of this post.
