You know, there are parts of this show that are just so... clunky and awkward I want to cry. Well, not actually CRY, but you get my point. And yes, the subplot with Brennan's father.. just. GEEZ. It helps my disgust that I generally dislike Ryan O'Neal. Seriously, Bones should totally be allowed to WALK AWAY and AVOID. Cuz, hey! Her dad did that for how long?
IN addition to all the good and valid points about Brennan's father made so far, let us not forget HE SETS PPL ON FIRE. I haven't seen the episode you're talking about, but DUDE. MULTIPLE TIMES AFIRE! That's hardcore right there, and if Booth is telling Brennan all that fatherhood garbage...it just makes me like the character a whole lot less.
You know, I'm so glad I'm not the only person that thought that, especially given D's relationship (or lack thereof) with his own dad.
Since when did it become Bones' responsibility to have her dad be a decent person? I get tired of the characters harp on her about how she needs to give her dad a chance. BAH.
Unfortunately, this I see being done because she's the woman, and women are supposed to be the fixers/healers/mommies/whathaveyou. *rolls eyes* It's an annoying cliche, but there you have it. I just try to ignore those bits and get giddy over the stupid!cuteness of Booth/Brennan. :)

I assume you also wanted to smack Landry (and almost everyone else) for his lecture to Vala in "Family Ties"?
