Thank you so much! Wow! This new season has sparked off so much good stuff.
I really hope TPTB use the characters as deftly and as sensitively and IC as you have here.

He is earnest and eager and so very sure, and it breaks her heart to watch his face harden a little more each time she shakes her head. Her response becomes a mantra: "Bring me a plan that has a chance of working, and I'll back you all the way."

Sadly, or perhaps wonderfully, I didn't get it either until I saw this line.

I love both their characters in this--John, eternally trying, not giving up, and Sam reacting out of her own bleak knowledge.
