Five things John Sheppard envied Cam Mitchell

marbleslab wanted Five things John Sheppard envied Cam Mitchell1. There's a moment after SG-1 shows up in Atlantis where John considers asking Mitchell if he'd swap Colonel Carter for Rodney. Just because it'd be nice, on occasion, to get the information he needed without the scathing editorial commentary. But he's not sure he'd know what to do with ( Read more... )

This was really good. It's a good insight into John and Cameron. #5 is great. :)

Very nice. I know a lot of people don't think Mitchell should have gotten command, and I think I sense a bit of that in what you've written, but I think you've been extremely fair with how you wrote it. Excellently done.

Like everyone else, I like how you ended it on the hair. It's something John can be unabashedly envious of and not seem mean by being so.

Thank you! Yeah, the Mitchell taking command of SG-1 when Sam is much better suited in terms of experience is something I've wanted to address in a fic for a while, and this was as good an opportunity as I would ever probably manage. Because Mitchell and Sheppard are very similar in that they're both pilots, yet have been given command of ground front-line combat/exploration units. And you know Cam has to look at the whole situation sometimes, and compare himself to Sam, and wonder why anyone thought this was a good idea.

Absolutely. I can't imagine Cam not comparing himself to Sam. He may be a rowdy guy, but he's not stupid - nor is he conceited.

Yeah, for ages I couldn't tell who was in charge - Mitchell or Sam - because I only realised that Cam existed halfway through season 9 because I only watched re-runs for a while. I guess they had to give Mitchell command after Sam came back because it had already been given to him, although Sam is definitely more competent. It's a pity that we didn't see more of Sam-in-command in season 8.

And the HAIR!!!!!
