I have no words. Okay, I have a lot of words, and most of them are "Oh for fuck's sake."

To quote fairmer, "Chivalry is dead and I killed it."

Ladies, pay attention now. This is how feminism is ruining it for all of us.

"The day men and women have the same level of power is the also the day when chivalry dies. Many women enjoy visiting bars and having men buy them drinks in exchange for a casual conversation. It seems that after all the ( Read more... )

There's a common problem with many people's thought processes (and you hit it right-on) whereupon they try to predict the ramifications of a change by holding everything other variable constant, including their own perceptions. Invariably the result is similar in nature to the one in the article above. This is usually an issue only with young or small minds. Let's hope he has some better role models who help him see the problem.

I can't even respond to this person's crap, it's so narrow-mindedly stupid. Chivalry in it's true form is, and would remain, a function of kindness, not gender-inequality. I hold doors and spring for drinks with men, too, and would always try to protect or comfort any person who felt unsafe as best I could... and I consider it as noble when I see such behaviour in others.

His entire premise is so off-base, I just can't even take it seriously.

What a knob.

Ugh, god. I hate those anti-feminist scare tactics. Careful what you wish for, girls, you just might get it. Men won't protect you anymore and it's ALL YOUR FAULT! Bleah!

I agree with those who have said that it's the polite thing to do to be chivalrous to other "people" not just women. Because I'll tell ya... those "chivalrous" guys at work just about kill me, and it's a back-handed way of sabotaging women so they appear less capable.

I'm, er, gonna stop ranting now.

My goodness. Free booze versus equality?

That's a tough one. But I think when all's said and done, I'll buy my own fucking booze if it means that some men stop thinking they need to 'protect me' and others stop thinking of me and others of my gender as less human than men and therefore easy prey.
