I've only finished two seasons but I'm hooked. The Wire is a great show because it is a study of systems. The drug gangs are run like corporations. They don't use the terminology, but they have executives, middle management, junior employees.

The show doesn't take sides between the cops and the criminals. They are given equal time and shown as two

The Wire is astoundingly good. It may well be the best show to ever grace a television screen. You have plenty of more good stuff coming up. I think the second season was the weakest of the five. There was a great deal of debate about the fifth season as well, but I think it really worked, though it came dangerously close to going out of control.

I haven't seen seasons three to five yet but I thought season two was great. The Sobatkas, Frank especially, were such great characters.

Two is only weak by comparison. I'm sure you will enjoy the rest.

The Wire is some quality television! I keep meaning to start at the beginning and get all the way through, but I never got past the first few episodes.
