All around me, the economy is showing. Friends and family are eating up their savings cushions. Writers and editors I know are in low level panic. Etc. Etc.

I was laid off from my last full time gig two months ago, but really, I haven’t worked a day job with any regularity ( Read more... )

I'd love to see more of these Caren. I've been sharing my frugality tips with my housemates here- after spending the past two years living off food-stamps, state issued healthcare, and the food bank (all in Pittsburgh) I've gained a lot of stretching the dollar skills in that realm. I'm floundering a bit here, as I'm unable to get a WA state ID yet, and thus can't apply for state issued healthcare, and I have no idea where to go to find a sliding scale doctor let alone sliding scale therapist and psychopharm in order to continue my treatment and get my scripts refilled when I run out. The medical side of things terrifies me more than anything else.

I am in awe of how you guys pull that off while living Downtown. My first move when I know I'll be low on money for any length of time is into a less expensive apartment, or getting a roommate.

I've still got a bunch of web customers and I haven't really been advertising since about August. If you want to get back into web design, its definitely worth looking into. A lot of small businesses are looking for ways to advertise or up their image. Just be sure to get a deposit before you start anything, I've had issues with people paying me in a timely manner.

Carry your business cards EVERYWHERE. I've found customers in the strangest places: The back of the property, in the middle of a lake(on a boat, mind you), and camping in the woods.

Miss you! Best wishes!
