Seriously!

You boil them (from frozen) for 30-45min to bring them back to life. :) Mindless cooking.

The last time we got a batch, we would cook up a pot of rice while they boiled, and both would be ready about the same time. But now that I've seen the prep (so much fiber!), I'm thinking skip the rice, just serve 2 with a salad, sauteed spinach, or light soup. Dense little buggers!

When we stopped by a supermercado in Caguas, they were selling frozen pasteles, 12 in a bag for $16. As opposed to 120 for around $18! We win. :)

I think I tore up my shoulder in the process of grating though -- there were 3 of us taking turns grating, and my shoulder was wrecked for days afterward. I'm sure there is a food processor way to deal with masa in the future if we wanted.

yeah, a GOOD food processor is a must!

I'm a big fan of serious business kitchen gear!

WORD.

Can one of those crazy Kitchen Aid muscle machines do this? (I want as many excuses as I can come up with to invest in one of those babies.)

We recently bought a good mandolin, with a decent guard and blades, and it manages a fast slice. Now we can toss out the Death Blade w/o guard.

As someone who's helped slaughter pigs at a lechonera: word!

You're making me more homesick than usual.

And I'm almost boundlessly happy that you're embracing so much of this, and that you are so happy together.
