I agree on the one you don't want from the obvious personal experience. It killed the year between Pirate sequels. Dark times so that must be avoided at all costs. I just want the sequel to catch my attention like this one did, not knowing anything about the franchise on the whole as I do. Oh, and I'd like a scene where Spock and Kirk play chess. With some logical discussion. And that's as far as I'm willing the scene to go (sorry, not much of a slash shipper). And then the ship gets attacked and Bones goes to find them and they're playing chess and Kirk says "In a minute." and Spock kicks his butt. -Yeah so something along those lines. What can I say, I like plotting things. ;)
I'm trying really hard to read this in a way that doesn't mean, "Spock is with Uhura in Reboot in the way that he was with Kirk in TOS," and I'm failing, even though I'm sure that's not what they meant...
Anyway, the potential for love triangleness is the main reason I'm nervous about the sequel and almost wish they weren't doing one. I really don't like Spock/Uhura, and not only because I'm a K/S shipper, so I'd like to see them give Uhura a non-love-interest role in the actual plot.
I think the most important thing, though, is to keep the humour and social commentary of the original. NGL, I loved the shinyness of XI, but it was a bit too action-oriented for Trek so I don't really want to see it stay on that path, you know?
After that, I just want to see Kirk and Spock have lots of fleeting "casual" touching and generally get snuggly. And have eyesex over a chess board. Mmmmm.
I'm sure they meant that Spock was friends with Uhura rather than Kirk, but still... speculation is FUN. :D
Glad to see someone else is worried about the potential of a love triangle. I really want a sequel, though. Like, super badly. It just wouldn't be right to redo star trek and not have Kirk and Spock be friends. Sure them hating each other was hot and all, but I want an irreplacable friendship like the one Spock Prime was talking about, dammit! LOL.
Social commentary is part of what makes Trek not good, but great. I would fault XI for not having it, except that I firmly believe it was just setting the characters up so they could have that possibility in the sequel.
I have no objections to a Kirk and Spock snuggle scene. In a very friendlike, manly way of course. Hehe. ;)
ZOMGWTFBBQ!!! Ok, lotsa things to do right now and not enought time to do them. I see you've started your sequel to teach me which I have to get reading, and you've got some vids I have to see, and I was planning blowing all the dust off my ff.net account and putting my ST stuff up, but right now I'm too busy FLAILING LIKE MAD!!! Because you see, I too am having the same difficulty comprehending the "Spock with Uhura instead of Kirk" line that rhaegal up there is having. I mean... look, I'm pretty sure they know about slash, and if they're looking in all the right places, they'll know that there are just as many K/S fans as there are S/U fans, and excuse me while I CONTINUE FLAILING because it sounds like they're actually considering it as a fucking VIABLE POSSIBILITY!!! *calms down* Ok, my two cents, for what it's worth (although what are the chances that they'll look over here? Is there somewhere we can send our opinions so that they will read them

DO WANT Kirk & Spock playing 3D chess. Like really, really badly. Like, work it into the actual plot somehow. Like, chess & poker as a metaphor for dealing with the enemy, logic vs bluffing and all that stuff
( ... )
I cannot express how much I agree with the no love-triangle front, unless it resulted in K/S in some form or fashion. Kirk didn't have any DEEP feelings for Uhura in the first film, and unless they bond beyond a professional level (which they didn't in TOS. Beyond friendship anyway) in the second one, this would be so O/OC it's not even funny.
It's about K and S friendship, not love triangles. These men are supposed to be the best of friends, and having them fight over a girl, after finally finding some common ground, would be disgusting beyond belief.
Have the writers said if they're going to do a triangle?
God I fucking hate triangles. How about a square? XD
I feel like the writers have perhaps hinted at a love triangle. Also, I've got the ST XI poster and the three prominent characters featured are Kirk, Spock, and Uhura. Bones is nowhere in sight, which makes me sad. :(

Chess with logical discussion?! Now why didn't I think of that?! What a fabulous suggestion!
