I love how you captured both Holmes and Watson. They sounded spot on to me. And I love the ending - it's so painful but in a good way. And I can see that bruised look RDJ got in his eyes every time Watson mentioned leaving. The hardness in his eyes seemed to turn brittle, and his hand hovered uncertainly over her table, as if he was looking for support he could not find, as if he... This was just lovely. Oh, and not just the Victorians play this at Halloween. It doesn't work - I've never once fallen in love with anyone whose name begins with C!!!
I absolutely adore this! And I agree with the previous commenter, you captured Holmes and Watson's voices/mannerisms beautifully. I love this idea too, though I've never heard of such a thing! And LMAO I love how Holmes & Watson argue over whether it's an H or an M XD That was absolute brilliance, it totally made me LOL. And I really love your writing style :) I wish this was longer, if only it wasn't for a 1,000 word prompt lol! Please keep writing and sharing :DDDD
Thanks a lot! :D No, I hadn't heard of it either, but I stumbled upon it while doing some research on Victorian Halloweens because I couldn't come up with anything else for my pumpkin prompt (well, I was going to do something really ridiculously fluffy about the boys coming home really tired and cold after an adventure and Mrs. Hudson makes them pumpkin soup and Holmes feeds the soup to Gladstone, omg ♥____♥-- okay maybe I should have done that instead). Holmes and Watson arguing over whether it was H or M, oh my god, I loved writing that bit because Holmes totally sekritly wants to be Watson's true love, but Watson is all HOLMES YOU IDIOT omg AM I GOING TO END UP MARRYING MARY OR NOT.
I wish it was longer too. ): I had to spend ages trimming this fic down to meet the required word count.
I don't think it's the same gypsy woman, but even so, this fic is definitely meant to reflect certain things in the movie, including that 'fortune-telling' bit, and also, towards the end of the movie, Irene says to Holmes that "A storm is coming". Also, rather hilariously, I just rewatched that bit of the movie with Flora in it, and just before that, the boys are examining the watch and they find the initials M.H. on it for the pawnbrokers. :')
That is totally what Holmes would do! :D I didn't have it there at first (I had Watson eating the apple himself), and then I was like WAIT NO HOLMES WOULD TOTALLY STEAL IT FROM HIM.

Haha, I should probably try the apple peel thing some time, just for the heck of it.
