Title: Untold Words
ORIGINAL
ONE SHOT
Comments: Here is another 'short story,' but in actuality this is a piece of wandering thought. Spewed out in less than an hour and unbetaed, so please excuse anything that bugs you.

Did you know? Words are useless things. Sure, you can communicate with them, as I am while writing this to you, but they are insufficient. They have limits. You can only go so far before hitting the wall of inexpression. Right smack dab into it, and all you would have as a ‘reward’ would be wordless gaping. Which I’m sure would get you somewhere.

Now, don’t get me wrong here, I am not in any way against words. In fact, people can carve exquisite scriptures with these mere things, and I admire them for that. But the fact is, I cannot express the extent to which I am in awe at these word masters. And you never know, maybe even these masters themselves are unsatisfied with the meaning they have accomplished in their strokes of thought, unable to create the atmosphere they themselves feel.

Perhaps the problem lies in our minds. Our minds are such complex things; they can feel so much more than what can be described. Is this piece of writing intriguing you? Or maybe it is amusing you greatly, whatever greatly is. How far can you actually describe your feelings about what you are reading? Is there a chance that you are also thinking that this is a complete waste of your precious time? Well then, if you are, I may direct you to a piece of beautific scripture, so that you may fill your time instead with incompetent words. Go to the nearest bound stack of papers and forget all about me.

Meanwhile, I will ponder about words. They are confusing little buggers. Some words can possess a myriad of meanings, while others are meticulously specific, directed towards getting across one idea and one idea only. Lonely halves of words have to be used with their respective counterparts, and all-rounders can romp around with any word they happen to find. Words, put together and used in different ways, can also be ambiguous; unclear; confusing, leaving one to wonder, ‘Now, what is that supposed to mean?’

And then the population of words continues to grow, whether new meanings are born or two words are married to form word couplets, ready to face the world. We are expected to go with the flow or fall behind, clueless when confronted with these new creatures. Those who are unable to comprehend are scoffed at, laughed at; a joke to the ‘hip’ and ‘cool.’ Whatever ‘hip’ and ‘cool’ are, really.

I believe I will leave you with this to run rampant around your mind. Or perhaps you will take your brain’s meandering thoughts, cage them up and attempt to throw away the key. Unfortunately, words cannot be locked up, and they will always find a way to escape. So, best to be up front with them, no? If one can actually be up front with such intangible and difficult objects.

Such difficult objects. Even now, I have not articulated what I have wanted to, but it swirls around unseen in the air around me. I cannot simply pluck at them and mold them into these finicky beings. (I daresay I might call them pets, but alas, they are not really ‘pets’ now, are they?) Perhaps you will have more success in your endeavours with these things, but for now, you will have to settle for my untold words.

And what marvelous untold words they are indeed.
