Amanda Palmer: Kyriarchy in Action. To think just the other day I got mad at someone who called her a talentless publicity hound, before I discovered today her loathsome behaviour. I still wish I could play piano as well as her, but not if I have to sell my soul for it.

It's always extra disappointing when people one has liked and/or respected show their arses in public and then paint their bare arses blue and wave them about in response to kind expressions of concern from their erstwhile friends/fans. Emperor's New Pants: not only worn by people we hate. ::wryface::

Well now. I gather from the rest of the comments that I will have even less incentive to follow Ms. Palmer's career than I did before.

I wish I could say that any excuse to draw a Venn diagram is a good one, but no. (I still ♥ 'em though!)

Hopefully she will get over herself at some point but if not, well, there's no shortage of similar acts to entertain me.

There is no such thing as a "gratuitous" Venn diagram. All Venn diagrams are necessary LIKE BREATHING!

No fair linking to funnier venn diagrams than mine! But while we're doing that... Jackson Pollock Venn Diagram.

And who knew Pollock was actually trying to paint zebras before he sneezed?!

I really liked the Dresden Dolls, although I think they sometimes went for, uh, "edgy" (e.g. the song about a child molester), so in a sense, I'm not really surprised about this, although I am angry and disappointed.

I think that song does a good job of describing the ambiguous feelings someone might feel towards her molester.
You know that meme about abuse victims becoming abusers? I wonder if something like that is going on here. It's not a fucking excuse, but I've seen a lot of abuse victims go to great lengths to get a cheap thrill of empowerment.

That's how I'd like to interpret it, but I'm not sure, especially in the context of the child porn background for Evelyn Evelyn, which I just can't see as anything other than gratuitous.

I suspect it's probably a complex issue which allows interpretation of the two (+) different songs in differing ways. I'm told Palmer is an abuse survivor herself so she'd presumably have something to say about that. I agree that the most recent EvelynEvelyn backstory seems gratuitous though.
