I'm guessing that his own composite personality/break-through followed having similar experiences of pushing past programming, adrenaline, and perhaps a shot of hallucinogen.
That would make an awful lot of sense. Though it was interesting in this episode that, though Alpha supposedly has access to all of his imprints, Echo seemed to be mostly getting things she'd experienced 'herself'. I wonder whether there could be two stages of breakthrough - regaining your sense of self and then 'remembering' imprints (like the little bit of Jenny that remained in the shoulder-slap).
Plus, imagine if it's getting old to me to hear, "Did I fall asleep?" what that must be like to Topher or Boyd.
Good point. In my game of 'guess Joss' power moments' I think I'm going to have to add to my list the episode-end where she just sits up without saying that (to some sort of dramatic music)...

Was it all his imprints, or were they calling him a 'composite'? And what's to say that the original personality of Alpha wasn't morally questionable? (It would be easier to rationalize wiping the minds of 'bad' people than misguided but generally good people like Caroline appeared to be.)

The impression I got about Alpha was that he's kind of himself, but with his imprints all in there as well - so even if he was morally questionable to start with whatever/whoever it was that meant he could cut so precisely in eight seconds is now just as much part of his personality as his own.
Though hmm - he would be a good character to explore the idea of how inbuilt 'morality' is...

Talk about a whole new level of schizophrenia.

That's an awfully complicated setup in order to attempt that, but it sorta makes sense.
Let me know when the skeeviness goes down, though. I really didn't care for the extended to-hunt-(wo)man sequence.
