i think it's because people want to sound carefree and glamorous instead of loving and sincere. also it would be really awkward if, say, on the phone you said "I love you" instead of "love youu, bye" to one of your friends even though the former is probably true, it's just weird anyway because it's too honest and too open
I think people cut out the I to make it less personal and embarrassing, which is silly since people shouldn't be embarrassed about telling the person they love that they love them.
why do people say, "i love you, too" as though they're obliged to love you back if you tell them you love them and yes, you're right, I'm in Israel. insane, no? I might even be getting married in september (!) where are you these days?
