The video feedback on the computer was grainy, as usual, but the objects it was filming were still identifiable. The gravemarkers past the dead trees were visible from the crumbling brick wall that separated the school grounds from the cemetery, not that the wall could hide much these days. Nii was rather glad for the view; it gave him a lot to work on. For example, he could see a long haired man cautiously approaching the school grounds ( ... )

Badou snapped out of his fear-induced trance, head jerking up toward the source of the voice. He tightened his grip on the sword and flashed a lop-sided grin at the scruffy-looking man by the glass door. Before he could say anything, something resembling a scream for bloody murder echoed from the graveyard.

His fingers twitched. Shitshitshit!

"Uhyeahitisnicetomeetyou!" He hurriedly breathed out the string of words, rushing past the man and into dimly-lit corridors. The sword bumped painfully with the back of his legs and Badou quickly turned his grimace into yet another grin. "You must be Nii Jienyi."

If he's gonna die, he'd at least take a cigarette to the grave.

Nii blinked when the redhead flew past him. That was quick. Was it because of fear, or was the man just that eager for a smoke?

"Yes, I am," said Nii, turning around closing the door behind him. "You're Badou, hmm?"

He raised the beaker with the cigarette. "Here you go. Not in the display case I promised because those are all the way up in the library, and I wasn't about to haul one down here. I do hope you aren't disappointed."

The way he dragged the words 'do hope' spoke more of amusement than regret.

Badou nodded and stared at the offered beaker with something resembling skepticism. The beaker even supported his name, written in bold black words and barely visible from the lack from lighting, and the cigarette inside looked convincingly fresh. He hesitatingly took the beaker from its owner and extracted the cigarette within, sticking it between his lips in one fluid motion.

"Nah, it's okay," he assured mildly, rummaging inside the pocket of his jeans for his lighter. His grin widened in triumph when the elusive lighter was finally found amidst crumpled notes and coins. "Thanks, man. This much more that I could've asked for, really."

He lit the cigarette and sighed in satisfaction. Blessed, blessed nicotine... Badou uncomfortably clutched the sword with his right hand and fidgeted with his newly-acquired cigarette with another. He turned to Nii, who had a curiously amused glint in his eyes, and asked, "You live alone here?"

Something else was on his mind this time as slick black boots made their way through the dusty empty streets to the school. It wasn't Lily or waves of the past as it usually were, this time it was a very recent past, it was this one simple phrase that kept sticking: that was not satisfying. To top that it, kind of -- no Haine just wouldn't think about it; shove it down with all the rest of that crap he shoved down and buried. Keep it all away, as usual.

He'd explored a little but -- stark vermilion looked back towards it. That stopped him from going most places, it throbbed the back of his neck, normally he could feel it but gotten use to the subtle ache -- here is pulsed and burned. Haine made a hiss and scowl, but continued forward; he didn't want to think about why Badou was here either of all places. What did he do to get sent to a place like this? The gunman was sure there was a reason people were here. He made no doubt that there was a lot he didn't know about the other red head ( ... )

There was a strange sort of silence after he had mentioned his little break from the world until they had reached the lounge. Nii supposed that most people would have been freaked out by that, or at least thought of it strange; to ignore one's basic needs when it was possible to acquire them was inconceivable to them. But Nii wasn't most people, and it had been the height of boredom that he decided on the spur of the moment to just see what would happen ( ... )

Badou nodded at the bits and pieces of information gleaned from his new acquaintance, watching with vague interest as Nii prepared the cup noodles. Wisps of steam rose from the containers when Nii poured hot water into them, misty and hazy like fog from the graveyard, like lethargic phantoms from nightmares he had forgotten about. Faces he couldn't see anymore. Names he couldn't remember. Badou sucked at the cigarette, leaning back further into the couch as he continued eyeing the way the man moved, the frayed end of the man's lab coat ( ... )

He sighed not even really paying attention to the other person there other than that initial stare when he first so gallantly entered, instead slid his figure down the broken but as the redhead said and was quite strangely accurate, comfortable couch. A momentary releif, head turned a little to just stare back catching that dumbfoundedly happy look on his partner's face he'd seen those rare occasions they'd been apart for a week or so - or Haine saved his ass, so really that expression wasn't too rare at all, actually ( ... )
