Running Away and a Sisters' Reunion. [UNFINISHED]

Who: Ema Skye, Miles Edgeworth, Lana Skye
Where: Outside the tenements, then into the city
When: After this log (in which Ema is rescued from Matt), but before this log (in which Phoenix and Edgeworth treat us to angsty smuts)
What: Edgeworth and Ema distance themselves from Matt, encounter Lana, and do some pillaging shopping before settling the ladies in for a long hide.

It was hard to not outright drag Ema along behind him, but Miles somehow managed to keep his agitated pace slow enough so the girl could keep up. Getting away from Matt was top priority, after all.

The stairwell was easy to find, even in the darkening hallway. As much distance between them and the sociopath, for now, was the best idea he had currently.

Ema tried her best not to lag behind. Mr. Edgeworth really could walk fast when he wanted to--she literally had to trot to keep up.

She didn't dare look back at the apartment they were leaving behind. It was... forever cursed. Hard to believe that a little over twenty-four hours ago, she was just a lost girl teaming up with a kind man. And, a few hours before that, a student of forensic science in Europe.

All of these sudden changes were really too much for a girl. Not to mention the shock of realizing that Mr. Wright, Mr. Edgeworth, and her own sister were also here.

'Lana...'

"Mr. Edgeworth, wait. Lana's nearby, I talked to her on the computer. Let's find her, please?"

Miles paused in running long enough to glance back at her. Ms. Skye, his superior, was here? Well, it was really of no surprise to him. If one criminal could come here, then another could..

He frowned at that thought, dismissing it with a shake of his head. "That would be wise." He stated, voice remaining indifferent. He really didn't want to run into the Chief Prosecutor, even if she thanked both him and Phoenix for 'freeing' her. There were some.. unsettled feelings that he didn't want to acknowledge.

But even so, it was for Ema's safety, so it would be ignored. "Did she say where she was?" Spoken as he lead her down the steps, slowing down considerably so neither of them fell.

Mr. Edgeworth had... frowned? Was he still upset over SL-9?

The frown was soon replaced by the same neutral expression that Mr. Edgeworth always wore. Still, Ema hoped that he didn't hold too big of a grudge. Having her two rocks in this place hate each other would certainly be awkward.

With a quick pause in thought (which, thankfully, didn't translate to a pause in her stride, or she would have tumbled down the stairs), Ema answered, "Second tenemant building. Is this one considered the first?"

"I think I recall seeing a number when I first arrived." Miles considered as he walked, quickening his pace only a little bit once they reached the first landing. "I do believe this is the first, and since someone came to Mr. Wright's rescue I can only assume my directions were correct."

"So she's right next door!" Whatever Mr. Edgeworth thought of her, Lana was her sister, and Ema was not about to pretend that she wasn't happy about getting to see her. Suddenly, it was much easier to keep pace with him--in fact, he wasn't walking fast enough.

"She said she would meet us outside."

Miles smirked faintly at Ema's sudden eagerness to reunite with her sister, and was now being dragged along by her. The rest of the hallway passed quickly, and he pushed ahead enough to hold the door open for her. He was polite, after all.

It wasn't hard to see the single figure standing in the distance, in front of the large building next to the first. It was the only one out there, after all.

It was her. Even in the distance, Ema knew her older sister when she saw her.

She hadn't seen Lana in over a year, now. Yes, she missed her sister, but she didn't realize how much until just this moment, seeing the woman who raised her in the flesh once more.

"Lana!" Breaking away from Mr. Edgeworth, Ema bolted down the front landing and across the distance between the two tenements. Without even a proper greeting, Ema wrapped her arms around her elder sister, laughing and sobbing and trying to say something but unable to form complete sentences.

It was comfort. It was almost home.

Lana was rather startled to be leapt upon, but realizing that it was Ema her mood changed drastically. She clutched onto her younger sister in a tight hug in return, not saying anything while her sister expressed unintelligible joy at seeing her. But she didn't care. She had lost her sister before, due to having to go to prison. But now, even the atmosphere was less than ideal, it was great to be with her again.

"Ema, thank goodness you're safe!" The woman said with relief, glancing behind her sister.. to see the man awkwardly standing there, glancing off to the side.

"Mr. Edgeworth."

Miles glanced back to Lana as she addressed him, nodding his head once. He didn't want to disrupt the moment, but he didn't want to just leave them either. "Ms. Skye."

Sniffling, Ema turned to look back at Mr. Edgeworth, a pang of something resembling guilt running through her. She didn't want to abandon him after all he'd done for her, and didn't want to make him feel unneeded, but... she and Lana could go somewhere and hide, and he could go back to Mr. Wright and make sure he didn't bleed to death.

Right?

Ema's stomach growled suddenly. She came to the realization and Lana had no food, and she was starving. "...Mr. Edgeworth? I read that you and Mr. Wright got clothes and food... could you show us where?"

Miles glanced from Ema to Lana for a moment, not saying anything. His gaze shifted towards the ground, before he nodded and returned his eyes to Ema. "Of course. They aren't far from here." He paused for a moment, trying to remember where they went, before he started walking down a street. "I will warn you though: there is not much along the lines of food."

Lana nodded, and walked along to keep up with Miles, making sure Ema stayed close to her side. "Anything is good to hold us over until we find a way out of here."

Ema said nothing, staying close to Lana and occasionally sniffling, her nose still congested from her emotional reunion with Lana.

What was there to say? Since arriving in this place, she had been attacked, nearly raped--twice--, interacted with a shadow of a human being, heard voices in her head, and caused another person extreme pain.

It was easier to blank her mind and focus on food for now. Later, she would talk to Lana about everything. With any luck, her sister would have answers.

Miles nodded, although he didn't contribute to that. He was starting to turn pessimistic on the whole escape notion, but he wasn't going to spoil the obvious happy reunion the sisters with his depressing thoughts.

Eventually, the trio approach the strip of stores that Phoenix and him passed the other day. "There's the clothing store we went into." Ignoring the fact that the door was broken and that he broke it. "But that is a male's clothing store.. you might want to get some clothes.. there should be a female's store somewhere around here.."

Lana nodded her head, glancing around as best she could, straying only slightly from Miles in her search. Eventually, she did find a store, and motioned him over.

Despite the fact that Lana didn't move far, Ema made sure to stay as close as she could. The euphoria of seeing her sister again was starting to fade, and Ema just found herself... scared.

She was always scared in this damned place.

Before Ema even realized it, she grabbed Lana's hand, clinging tightly.

Lana reassured Ema as best as she could, giving a gentle squeeze in return: hard to do when your hand was being crushed, really. But the former chief prosecutor didn't mind.

"We'll be right back, Mr. Edgeworth." She felt bad leaving him outside, but even so.. it was a store for women. Leading Ema along, she pushed open the door to the clothing store and held it open for her sister.

Ema let her sister lead her into the store, wondering vaguely why it was unlocked. She looked around--the place looked as if it hadn't been entered in years, and the only light was what little bled in from outside. A shudder travelled throughout her.

Ema reached for her flashlight, and realized that it wasn't there--her bag and everything in it was still in that apartment, back with Matt...

She decided she didn't need it. He could keep it.

"We're not going to grab too much, only grab a few days worth.." Lana stated with a sigh, walking over to a rack. Miles seemed to expect them to be here a while, so she wasn't going to question. The clothes were pretty basic that she was aiming for, anyway.

Realizing that it was getting darker, she glanced back to Ema, realizing now that she didn't have her backpack with her. She didn't want to waste time: once they got situated she would ask.

Ema nodded, silently agreeing with her sister's directions. It took a lot of effort, but she managed to let go of her sister's hand and start moving about the store singularly. She grabbed a large purse and started shoving clothes into it--undergarments, then a few shirts and a few pairs of pants. With any luck, these clothes would be true to her size. Ema had a feeling that she would need as many clothes as the bag would carry.
