Demyx didn't know what had drawn him to the church; the building had been looming in his thoughts lately in a way that he wasn't sure he liked. When the earthquake struck, he struggled to keep his balance, but failed. Curling himself up as small as possible, he prayed for the quake to end.

This isn't helping, the Nobody decided eventually. He worked up the nerve to sit up and look around, mostly to see whether he should move or not.

Then he spotted Terra. "You?" he screamed over the noise of the earthquake. "Are you doing this?"

Being unable to actually respond to Demyx, as she cannot see him or even do much of anything right now, she looked over at him at hearing his voice, eyes glowing bright yellow.

"I'm sorry!" She called out, over the rumbling of the earthquake. "I'm trying to stop it but I can't!"

Before Demyx could stop himself, he shouted back, "Try harder!"

Vergil faltered under the force of the quake, but managed to stay upright. It had been a while since he had experienced one, but it was nowhere near as bad as the one that was striking.

I must be near the epicenter if it is this bad.

He scanned the area for any visible fault-lines, any cracks in the ground that would scream unstable earth below. But there was nothing. No shifting of earth, no cracks, nothing but the massive church and a girl struggling to get her footing.

A girl?!

It was slipping. She could feel it. Like reaching for sand beneath her fingers and having some fall away, trying to pull towards her and hold onto it and failing miserably. She needed to regain all of it, but the more she fought the more it slipped from her grasp.

She bit back a scream, clenching her eyes tight, afraid to look as the world rocked around her. She had to fight it, somehow, and so she tried, gripping at her head, keeping the glow in her eyes from spilling out.

Vergil; took a tentative step towards the girl. She seemed to be struggling against something, but what it was he wasn’t sure. There wasn’t anything near-by that could be attacking her - or nothing that he could see or sense. It was still just the two of them and the church.

Which made everything more difficult.

If she was being attacked, the choice would be easy: saving her or not, the fight would have been worth it. But there was no enemy.

Dare I approach or do I leave her to her own devices?

Being as how she's currently distracted, Terra yelled out to Demyx since Vergil doesn't say or do anything to warrent her attention at this time.

To be seen, or not to be seen? Normally she would stick to isolating her target, but it looked like a sighting would be unavoidable, and this opportunity could not be missed. She'd just have to get there before the others and disappear quickly.

A door opened in one of the buildings near the Church, and from it came a woman in red. She moved toward the girl, constantly losing and regaining her balance as the tremors continued.

Come here, she communicated as if she had whispered in Terra's ear. I can help you regain control.

Easier said than done.

Managing to stand on her feet, Terra's body arched backwards, arms out at her sides. Her powers had a mind of their own. She couldn't stop them, and the more she realized how helpless she was the worse they got out of control.

"I.. I can't.." Regain control? Her hands forced themselves forwards, glowing eyes in determination. She had to be able to move, the promise of control..

But Slade promised her that as well. Could she really break his promise like that?

Slade isn't here. She reminded herself.

Winds had started kicking up around her, causing a cyclone around her. The dirt was reacting to her powers, drawn in a spiral with her as the center. Despite this, she managed to push towards the voice, the woman in red, taking as much energy as possible, with everything going on around her.

The strain on her was unbearable. But she pushed on.

That's right, she murmured to Terra, lips curved in a smile. Just a little more.

The frenzied winds carried with it debris that could potentially cause damage, but she didn't care. War took a few more steps forward, enjoying the strong and chaotic power that washed over her. It was exhilarating, and she opened her arms to its source in parody of the father welcoming his prodigal son -- an appropriate image, she would think later as she dreamed of all the conflicts that could be started.

She eagerly anticipated the next few moments.

Terra just wanted it to stop.

Each moment was a struggle, a movement of despiration, a struggle against herself. Yet the promise, as hopeful as the first time she ever heard one uttered, pulled her forward.

She had to make it. She had to.

The struggle ended with Terra collapsing with exhaustion at War's feet, the shaking earth ceasing as soon as she hit the ground.
