‘Blasted stairs.’ He had been at it for three hours, trying to figure out how his door never put him where he wanted to be: the hallway. Inevitably, he would end up deposited somewhere on the stairs and was forced to start back at square one. Part of him wanted to give up, but curiosity was getting the better of him.

He stopped twenty steps from the bottom, his eyes landing on something he had yet to encounter on his many trips to and from his door: another person.

The girl seemed momentarily fascinated by the sprawling city itself or horrified by oppressive evil that hung overhead. He wasn’t quite sure which; it was hard to actually tell what she was feeling without having seen her face.

With a small sigh, he resumed his trek down the stairs, drawing closer to the stranger.

“I loathe to inform you, but it never changes, no matter how long you stare. So it would be in your best interest to become accustomed to the setting, whatever your opinion may be about it.”

She had not felt the presence in her back, too busy trying to se how many souls were in there and why the darkness felt more like a person itself rather than just a state of the weather. As soon as she heard speaking, she sat up straight, then jumped away to put distance between whoever it was and herself before she turned around.

Besides, she didn't have her zanpakutou to rely on, so shunkou and hand-to-hand were all she had left. Not that it made her less dangerous, but it certainly made her more trigger-happy.

She gave the guy a lookover, up and down, and frowned. He didn't feel right either.

"What is this place ? What do you know about it ?"

Vergil cocked his head, a bit incredulous. The jump was the response he had expected out of her, but the curious look he didn’t. Part of him realized that was the proper response, but his instinct told him that she should have sensed him coming. He wasn’t exactly being quiet after all; it made no sense for her not to at least hear him coming down the stairs.

“I would call it hell,” he replied, gazing off into the distance. “But that would be a disservice to hell.” He turned back to her. “And I know very little. What I do know is that the doors never put you where you expect them to. And most of the time they dump you right back here.” He snorted. “It is quite counter productive.”

"That's not hell," Yoruichi confirmed. "Doesn't look like it at all."

She listened to him talkign about the doors and the fact that every way apparently led back here.

"So, base line, I'm stuck here ? Great ! Just ... great !"

She started pacing, talking half to herself, half to the sky.

"You better get your butt here, Kisuke ! 'Cause I swear if I find ou you screwed up the coordinates ... and how can you screw up those coordinates anyway ! First thing you learn at the Academy !"

She sighed explosively, then took a dep breath, looking at the guy again.

"So ... is there somewhere in there where I can find a place to stay ?" she said with a vague gesture towards the city.
