From where he was lying on the tatami-covered floor in front of the computer, Watanuki could only faintly hear someone's footsteps slightly increase in volume as this person, preseaumably Yuuko, walk closer. It was only when he heard his employer's voice that he was sure who it was ( ... )

"...Yuuko-san."The sound that reached Yuuko's ears sounded like that of a dying frog spirit. Had she not been completely certain that it was her assistant in that room, she would have been preparing last rites on scrolls for the creature ( ... )

Watanuki made a muffled sound of protest when Yuuko moved him from the table. It wasn't that he didn't appreciate Yuuko's concern, but sometimes he still thought that it was embarassing to be the one taken care of. When he was well again, he'd have to make something special for Yuuko... as special as he could make something, given the very limited ingredients available to him.

"You'll get your clothes dirty," he whispered roughly before accepting the water that Yuuko offered. The cool liquid soothed his mouth and throat, washing away the acidic taste of the bile that had threatened to spill out of his mouth in an earlier bout of nausea.

Once Yuuko had taken the glass away, Watanuki closed his eyes a bit and enjoyed the sensation of the cool cloth on his face. It was soothing to his burning skin.

"Thank you... how was your trip?"

Yuuko raised an eyebrow at Watanuki's comment about her clothes, and settled with giving him a dismissive look.

"If they get dirty, then you'll just clean them, won't you?" she grinned.

At that moment, the witch wished she had a thermometer. He was hot to the touch, but she wasn't able to tell whether continuing to wipe him down would suffice or if she needed to put him in a bathtub full of ice. Not that she could get ice here anyway. Or bandages, alcohol (both for drinking and medicinal purposes) or cough syrup or asprin...

Wait. She had found some medicine today. A tiny bottle of some multi-purpose fever reducer pain reliever thing. But it would be in the pantry with the rest of her things...

Didn't matter, she decided. The boy's debt was such that did another quick spell really matter? Besides, she was loath to leave him alone in such a state, although she'd rather have died than admit it ( ... )

Watanuki grumbled about the general unfairness of things, though there wasn't any real anger behind his words. In general, sick people weren't supposed to be up, but that didn't mean they were totally off the hook with their duties. Though Watanuki was guilty of trying to remain active when he wasn't feeling well, he told himself that the circumstances were different and no one's life was in danger here, even if Yuuko cared for each and every piece of clothing she had Watanuki would still end up washing them anyway because he just hated the thought of leaving stains on such nice fabrics especially when the stains came from him.

"Rice is good," he murmured. "I never thought I'd miss what rice tasted like..."

While they managed to get bread once in a while, they mostly found noodles. Watanuki was a creative cook and he could make do with what other ingredients were available to them, but the long weeks they had with just noodles really did force him to stretch his imagination lest he suffer more complaining from Yuuko than what was ( ... )

Yuuko raised her eyebrow. "Can't see what's in front of your nose even with that eye?"

Doumeki's eye should have helped his vision. If he couldn't see, was that just because she was holding the pills too far away, or because the illness was somehow affecting his vision?

She held them a bit closer. "It's medicine. Bottle said it helped with fever and pain. Are you going to take them yourself or do I have to push them in there and rub your throat like a cat?" she grinned.

"I would," Watanuki muttered a touch testily, "if you'd stop moving the bottle."

He squinted at the label when the text grew bigger. He could see the big yellow letters looking happy against their dark blue background, but he couldn't read them for the life of him. While he did fairly well in English (from what he could remember based on the odd memory/dream fragments that he still had, which weren't all too reliable in the first place), reading the all-too-tiny text which contained more important information than the brand name was quite the challenge for him especially when he lacked the focus he needed to read. All he could do was nod, and hope that Yuuko read the label to see what side-effects there were.

"I'll take it," he grumbled, struggling to sit up. "If you think it'll help get rid of whatever this is, it's fine with me."

"I am not," Yuuko replied, equally testy, "moving the bottle." That worried her slightly. Was his vision going as an effect of the sickness?

She clucked her tongue in irritation as her assistant struggled himself up. Always trying to do things himself, the little fool. He was getting better, but honestly...

Yuuko popped out two pills from the bottle, given that she didn't trust his motor skills to be up to the task, and folded them into his hand before placing the glass of water in his other.

"Go on then, if you're so capable," she said, grinning. No harm in teasing him a little, even if he was sick.

"You were earlier." Watanuki closed his eyes for a few moments before opening them again. Keeping them open was getting a bit tiring.

The pills felt alien in his palm as he slowly closed his hand (painful as it was to do so) and felt the two lumps between the folds of skin. His other hand (which felt so light) shook when the glass' weight was left to him to bear. Lifting the hand with the pills to pop into his mouth was agonizing -- his shoulders screamed, though he pressed his lips in a thin line to keep himself from making a sound. By the time he had put the two pills in his mouth, he was considering dry-swallowing them instead of going through the effort of lifting that glass even though his throat was already dry.

That Yuuko was teasing him had never crossed his mind.

Yuuko's brow creased in worry as she watched the obvious effort on Watanuki's part to take the medicine. A normal flu shouldn't have made it so hard for him to move. What could he have? And, wonderfully enough, all of her books were back in the shop, along with her cure-alls, elixers, the bed she usually put him in to recuperate, everything.

She gently lifted the glass out of his hand, taking care not to move any of his already-sore fingers. The witch moved the glass up to his lips and tilted it up just enough to wet his lips.

"Open, and swallow. I'm not going to choke you," She was trying her best to keep up a lighthearted face in front of him.

Yay late. Yuuko left on me... She does that sometimes ^^;
