Who: Duke Fabre & Susanne Fabre What: New arrivals, woo? Where: By the staircase to who knows where ^^ When: ... Now? Rating: G to PG. They're polite folk. Open: Not at the moment :o
Susanne Fabre had been pleasantly surprised when her husband had entered their chambers and requested awkwardly that she accompany him to his office. He'd been hovering over her the past few days since Luke's departure, and while she supposed he had reason to (she was somewhat distraught over the whereabouts of her birth son), it was more endearing than helpful
( ... )
"This was not my intent," Fabre responded, his voice distant, as if watching the situation from afar. This could not be real. He turned to look behind them, and found the door completely gone, the hallway they'd come from replaced by stairs heading up into the clouded sky. It was dark and the air was chilled, so he kept his arms wrapped closely around his wife to keep her as safe and warm as he could, all things considered.
"There's nowhere else to go," he murmured after a moment, eyes narrowing as he looked downwards, the stairs spiraling into the clouds. "We'll have to go down."
"It is...very dark," Susanne murmured worriedly, clutching at his sleeve and staring down the stairwell. Something about what lay beyond frightened her, and she took several breaths to calm herself before continuing. "But I suppose you are right."
There wasn't much to be gained by simply standing around, so -shoving aside her fears and worry- Susanne clung tightly to Fabre's hand and tentatively began to descend behind him.
"Yes, it is," Fabre replied shortly, keeping her close to him. He'd positioned himself so that if they fell, he would be able to shift them so that he was on the bottom, keeping her as safe as possible. It wasn't much, but until they reached the bottom, it was the best he could do. He'd considered carrying her - and would, if she grew too weary - but the unbalance was too much of a risk so high up. "Stay close to me, and tell me if you grow too tired to continue. This may take some time."
It was difficult to contain his anger. This was not amusing, nor was it his idea of a vacation.
His arms around her were comforting in the cold and the dark, and Susanne gratefully drank in the warmth and security she knew nobody else had the privilege of experiencing around her husband. While he was gruff and intimidating with enemies, her husband was always gentle with her; his protectiveness made the trip down the strange stairs a little less frightening.
Susanne let out a weak laugh. "Well, I suppose it is a far better option than climbing up." She glanced skyward, eyes following the helix into infinity, and grew so dizzy she nearly stumbled.
