Sometimes I forget everyone back on Earth hasn't been living and breathing this stuff for years now.

The Fold drive is the FTL tech all the Macross fleets use. It's how we got around from planet to planet. You can go dozens of light years at a time, but there are naturally occurring fields in space called fold faults that you can't jump through, so we have to hop right up to the fault, then fly through it in regular space before folding again.

Well, apparently only a person who can control his Spiral Energy can actively use the Spiral Recognition System. So the only way it could work on that kind of scale is if every group has a Spiral Warrior.
