with the way Harry Potter swept the world, there SHOULD be some professor out there assigning it as required reading. Maybe some English 405 (Creative writing) teacher with assign it. maybe? :)
Eh... maybe ages from now when they're "classics"... and I see them being more juvenile than college-level reading... maybe assigned reading in junior high? That would be cool for my kids someday, who knows.
I took a Young Adult Lit. class that did not have it as required reading, but another prof. of the same class did require the first two, I believe.
It really just depends on the personal philosophy of the teacher/professor. I encourage my students to read 'em, and have 'em in my classroom, but then again, I'm a math teacher at a Catholic high school, so I can only have so much influence.
More teachers should assign reading that their students enjoy, rather than focusing solely on the "classics." But that's just me.
